GOOMBUNGEEJacaranda DayIt’s all about local historyHISTORY - ART - CULTURE - ENTERTAINMENT - FOOD - DRINKSWE’LL HAVE IT ALL ON SATURDAYWhether it is sweltering heator driving rain, or anything inbetween, the community ofGoombungee is hard at workpreparing for the 2022 JacarandaDay Festival on Saturday.Denise Iseppi, president of thefestival organising group, RosalieShire Historical Society, describesthe day as a celebrationof the historic events, buildingsand groups which built this townand its sense of community.“This year, festival themesbring focus to the centenary ofthe Queensland CWA, and the125 th anniversary of the PioneerArms Hotel,” explains Denise.“Of the five hotels that haveoperated in this town, the PioneerArms is the only one thathasn’t burned down. It’s beenthe place where people havegathered to share their experiences,good and bad, throughfive generations.“And, since the formationof the CWA a century ago, thatorganization has been a drivingforce for women, families andcommunity wellbeing acrossQueensland and Australia.“So, this year, the focus is onSpring Gardenthese two organisations with twohalf-hour street shows tracingthe stories of both the PioneerArms Hotel and the CWA insong and verse.
