RECONNECTING:
Devon open studios 2022
Saturday 10 to Sunday 25 September
Liz Wilkinson Cave, Camphill Devon
Devon Open Studios is the annual flagship
event of Devon Artist Network. For two
weeks, every September, members of
the network, potters, painters, jewellery
makers, wood workers, needle workers and
creatives of every kind, open their doors
and invite people in to discover their work.
Visitors can chat to the artists themselves
about their processes and inspiration.
Work is also on sale and it can be a perfect
opportunity to purchase unique artwork
direct from the maker.
It was great to be a part of this
event. Instead of the usual crowds and
queueing at our other one-day events;
where people only have a few hours to
visit all of our studios, BBQ and café; this
was a very different affair with a few
people visiting at a time. There were some
new faces as well as old, but we really had
time to talk to them and they could see
first-hand, the work being made by the
people we support and their level of skill
and creativity.
The people at Hapstead relish the
opportunity to be part of the community,
seeing their work and skills being
valued, and even being able to teach
people something new and share
knowledge. Thankfully plenty of people
at Camphill Devon were willing to give up
part of their Saturday to come in when the
studios were open to help demonstrate
and sell work.
We have a wide range of activities on offer.
Our Weavery is equipped with floor and
table looms, as well as sewing, knitting
and spinning. We are now also offering
painting and screen printing. In our metal
work area, you can make jewellery, cards,
sculptures and lights, and we have a kiln
for glass work and enamelling. Our Pottery
produces a wide variety of hand-built
work that is fired in our on-site kilns and
our wood work area has lathes for turning
beautiful bowls, pens and spoons not to
mention the carved and functional work
that is produced.
Demonstrating our skills and
creativity at our Open Studios,
