GOLD DOLLARS 1849-1889From 1795 to 1933, the U.S. produced $2.50, $5, $10, and later, beginningin 1850, $20 gold coins. Because early gold pieces minted between 1795 and1834 contain some of the rarest dates, many collectors choose to start theircollections with Classic Head gold pieces.
