a HISTORICAL ARTS WORKSHOP:

INTRODUCTION TO BLACKSMITHING

FOR ADULTS

Friday

How would you like to try

your hand at blacksmithing?

Participants will receive one

hour of personal one-on-one

instruction from one of our

skilled interpreters. One-hour

sessions are $20 per person and

participants must be age 16 and

older. One person per session.

Admission to the fort is included.

Please register by contacting the Foundation Office at

(304) 363-3030 to set up a date and time. Spaces fill up

fast, so make sure to register early.

SEPTEMBER 23

a SOAP MAKING AND BUTTER

CHURNING DEMO

Saturday, 11 am

Join us at the fort and see the process of soap making

and butter churning as it was done in the 18th century.

Regular admission applies.

OCTOBER 7 – 8

a AUGUSTA COUNTY MILITIA

Saturday and Sunday

Join us as the Augusta County Militia explores the life and

times of early Appalachian pioneer Joseph Doddridge.

They will demonstrate several crafts based on Doddridge’s

writings as well as conducting militia operations. A militia

muster, inspection, and the dispatching of scouts and

spies will be discussed and demonstrated throughout the

weekend. Regular admission applies.

OCTOBER 21

a HEARTH COOKING DEMO

Saturday, 11 am to 2 pm

Come out and tour the fort and smell the food cooking over

an open hearth, the way food was prepared during the

colonial period of our history. Recipes will be available upon

request. Regular admission applies.

OCTOBER 28

a CANDLE MAKING AND BUTTER

CHURNING DEMO

Saturday, 11 am

Come out and see the process of candle making and butter

churning in the 18th century. Also learn some of the different

methods of lighting as candles are being produced. Regular

admission applies.

NOVEMBER 25

a 18TH CENTURY CANDLELIGHT

CHRISTMAS TOUR

Saturday, 5 pm to 8:30 pm

Bring the family and join us for a special interpreter led

candlelight tour of the 18th century historic fort and 19th

century Job Prickett House. See how our ancestors celebrated this

holy time of year as our staff takes you through many aspects of a

colonial Christmas celebration with live period music in the Visitor

Center. Last ticket to tour will be sold at 7:30 pm.

NOVEMBER 26

a 18TH CENTURY CHRISTMAS TOUR

Sunday, 12 noon to 4 pm

Join us for an interpreter led tour of the historic 18th century fort

and the 19th century Job Prickett House. See how our ancestors

celebrated this holy time of year as our interpretive staff takes you

through many aspects of a historical colonial Christmas celebration.

Regular admission applies.

DECEMBER 1

a CHRISTMAS TOUR AND HEARTH COOKING DEMO

Friday, 10 am to 4 pm

Come out and tour the fort and smell the food cooking over an open

a WREATH WORKSHOP

Saturday, 9 am to 12 pm noon

This annual workshop hosted by the Marion County Master

Gardeners allows participants to make their own holiday wreath

from a wide variety of fresh greens to take home. Cost of workshop

$25 includes all materials. Bring gloves, pruners and wire cutters.
