<strong>GCSE</strong> <strong>Options</strong><br />
<strong>GCSE</strong> 9-1 Qualifications<br />
The introduction of a new-style of <strong>GCSE</strong> courses was completed in September 2017. Whilst<br />
this is now some time ago parents and pupils may still be unclear about the differences<br />
between these course and traditional <strong>GCSE</strong>s.<br />
The main features of the new style 9-1 <strong>GCSE</strong>s are:<br />

A new grading scale of 9 to 1 is now used, with 9 being the top grade. This is designed<br />
to allow greater differentiation between students and will help distinguish the new<br />
<strong>GCSE</strong>s from previous versions.<br />
Assessment is mainly by examination, with other types of assessment used only<br />
where they are needed to test essential skills.<br />
There is new, more demanding content, which has been developed by government<br />
and the examination boards.<br />
Courses are designed for two years of study – they are no longer divided into different<br />
modules and students will take all their exams in one period at the end of their course.<br />
