Supreme & Female Champion -Killiworgie Mirandas LottiTHE 2022BRITISH SIMMENTALVIRTUAL SHOWKILLIWORGIE MIRANDAS LOTTIIS CROWNED THE SUPREMECHAMPION OF THE 2022SIMMENTAL ‘VIRTUAL’ SHOW• Auchorachan Malt awarded Overall Reserve• 286 pedigree Simmentals entered the online competitionAfter some seven weeks of online judging, the January2020 born heifer Killiworgie Mirandas Lotti from Steve& Gill Gummow, Higher Killiworgie Farm, Newquay,Cornwall, has been crowned as the 2022 British Simmental‘Virtual’ Show Champion. In what is the third staging of theonline competition, this stylish heifer just got the nod in frontof the Male Champion and Overall Reserve, Auchorachan Maltfrom D & R Durno & Sons, Ballindalloch, Banffshire.34 | www.britishsimmental.co.uk
The Simmental ‘Virtual’ Show was launched in 2020 to bring ‘somefun and competition’ for breeders who were missing the summershow season during the Covid pandemic. Due to its popularity inboth the inaugural year and in 2021, the Society ran the competitionagain in 2022. Acknowledging that the summer show season hadreturned in the 2022 year, the Simmental ‘Virtual’ Show had areduced format of three male and three female classes followed bythe Championships. The support was again terrific with a fantastic286 entries received from around the UK.The Supreme Champion Killiworgie Mirandas Lotti firstly camethrough her class of 71 heifers before being awarded the FemaleChampionship. In all, a tremendous 185 females were entered overthe three female classes. Sired by the 2017 English National ShowReserve Champion Lynfield Hamish 16, Killiworgie Mirandas Lottiis out of Boars Head Miranda EX90, bred by Mr RJ Grenham, andwho goes back to the Irish-bred AI bull Seaview Prince Charming.Killiworgie Mirandas Lotti is in-calf to the herd sire Islavale Jerico18, who was purchased at Stirling in October 2019 for 14,000gns.Speaking after the Championship ‘big reveal’ was announced, GillGummow said: “We are absolutely thrilled to have won this year’scompetition. We couldn’t quite believe it when we won the FemaleChampionship, so to go on and win the Overall Supreme is really justfantastic. The whole competition has again been a lot of fun and wehave loved looking at the Simmental cattle from breeders all over thecountry in these last few weeks.”Judging the Overall Championship was David Sapsed of the notedHeathbrow Simmental herd, Codicote, Hertfordshire, which wasestablished back in 1995. Commenting David Sapsed said: “I’d like tothank the British Simmental Cattle Society for asking me to judge the2022 Simmental ‘Virtual’ Show Championship.I felt that the Killiworgie heifer wasa really well-balanced beast, veryfeminine looking and stylish, with a superbtop line, tremendous width and length, andexcellent legs and feet. All of these attributesnudged me to choosing her as my SupremeChampion. Given good luck she should growinto a wonderful Simmental breeding cow.”“It was a very difficult choice and I should take nothing away frommy Overall Reserve, the Male Champion Auchorachan Malt whoI particularly liked. He’s a tall bull, upstanding and stylish withgood legs and feet, a great body with an excellent head, neck andshoulders. He also should have a bright future in front of him. Boththe Male and Female Champions represented great examples ofyoung Simmental animals. Congratulations to the champions and toeveryone who entered this year’s competition.”The Reserve Supreme and Male Champion Auchorachan Maltis entirely homebred. March 2021 born, Malt is by the notedAuchorachan Hercules 16, whose sons averaged £10,500 in 2021and have sold up to a top price to date of 18,000gns. AuchorachanMalt’s dam is Auchorachan Hilly 8 EX90, a daughter of the 9,000gnsTeam Fergus 14 EX91. Auchorachan Malt’s Championship win sawhim prevail from over 100 Simmental bulls entered across thethree classes. This classy young bull now takes aim at the StirlingSimmental Bull Sale February 2023.Commenting on the 2022 Simmental ‘Virtual’ Show generally, thethen BSCS President Stewart Stronach, Maisley, Keith, Banffshire, said:“Huge congratulations to the Killiworgie and Auchorachan herds fortheir Championship wins. The VirtualShow really has gained a remarkable following on social media notjust in this country but around the world.
