Welcome

2023 marks the start of a new era of packaging.

It’s the year we finally emerge from the shadow of the pandemic into a radically

different world. And, while the worst of the COVID era seems to be over, this exciting

new frontier for packaging is not without its challenges.

What’s happening at the event this year?

Following the Packaging Innovations and Empack May 2022 expo, which was one of the first key shows

for the packaging industry to be held in-person in the wake of the global pandemic, the move to a triple

event has attracted a huge influx of interest from leading exhibitors and has returned to its regular

February dates. A key focus of each event is to provide a platform for packaging industry specialists

to demonstrate, discuss and discover products and services that support every step of the packaging

journey, from concept and design to production, packing, logistics, and fulfilment.

Cocktail bar

Unwind and network at our cocktail bar sponsored by Simply Cartons, this year’s

theme is Outer Space. Hurry, the first 100 visitors coming through our doors each day

Foodservice Packaging Zone

The Launch of a brand-new dedicated Foodservice and Packaging Zone, coordinated

through an exciting new partnership with the Foodservice Packaging Association

(FPA). The new zone will focus on packaging solutions for the ever-growing on-thego

sector. With home deliveries and out-of-home eating growing again after the

pandemic, it will be the perfect place to bring together this dynamic market.

The Big Responsibility debate

The Big Responsibility Debate, produced in partnership with our

Chairs Martin Kersh, Executive Director, FPA & Jane Bevis, Executive

Chair, OPRL, will explore the cost of EPR and DRS, the implications

for brands and packaging suppliers, plus the delays in DRS.

As the representative body for this vibrant sector The Foodservice Packaging Association (FPA) is

thrilled to have the dedicated foodservice packaging area at this editions Packaging Innovations show.

This is long overdue for such an innovative and dynamic packaging sector and we’re delighted to

find the foodservice packaging area sold out so quickly. We are very grateful to the Easyfairs team for

making it happen

Foodservice packaging is a truly innovative sector as it responds rapidly to food and meal delivery

trends many of which can happen with little warning. New takeaway cuisines take off constantly and

the UK still continues to experience new names on the high street, many of which are global names.

Customer expectations regarding home delivery also continue to change as ordering app technology

develops so packaging must enable meals to arrive hot and in perfect restaurant condition even on the

back of a moped travelling over speed bumps.

Foodservice packaging producers are also producing new packaging in response to changes in

legislation ensuring fitness for purpose, even when consumed on the go, is unaltered but using less

material and providing even improved levels of safety.
