ExpectedProgenyDifferencesA tool used to gauge the genetic merit of an animal for an economically relevanttrait of beef production. The International Genetic Solutions (IGS) powered EPDprinted in this catalog are current as of 3/22/2023 and are reflective of all currentand relevant information available at the time of estimation. Carcass predictions areestimated using the IGS genetic evaluation and updated post-evaluation using theUSDA Meat Animal Research Center across-breed adjustments. All bulls have beengenomically tested using the Neogen 100k GGP platform and sampled for color andhorn/polled genetic status. As information is gathered, EPD will update on a weeklybasis. We understand an EPD is the best measure of an animal’s genetic potentialand thus are the only sources of information we will publish in this catalog. Why is this important?In breeding decisions, you want the most informative and robust tools at your disposal. An inherentweakness of evaluating the genetic merit on animals is the fact few data are available on younganimals to make a definitive prediction. However, by using the animals genome, we can take ourunderstanding of which genes affect certain traits and build those into our prediction models toincrease the accuracy of EPDs. This coupled with the understanding of which genes dictate colorand polled expression make this technology extremely valuable for our customers as well as ourability to produce better and more profitable cattle.
