Dear Reader,
This comic was a test to see how AI art generation functions
in January and February of 2023. By the time you’re reading
this, AI art generation has advanced even further and is
capable of even more than this.
Over the course of this project I learned that Midjourney and
DallE when used together can be really powerful tools for
art direction. These tools will be invaluable for art direction,
but as I see it, is not anywhere near capable of replacing
illustrators, photographers, and designers. Instead these
tools are excellent for art direction, storyboarding, and
personal projects.
When discussing AI art generation, you cannot avoid
discussing the morality of it. AI is trained off of real humans’
work, their art and their design. The art you see in this
comic is a conglomeration of many different artist’s work
meshed together to form a new piece of art. Those artists
are not paid for their work, nor did they consent to AI using
their work. I am not able to credit them as the technology
doesn’t currently inform the user whose art work was used
in the production of images.
While I personally believe that as AI takes over more of our
jobs and skills we all will eventually benefit, in the mean
time artists aren’t getting paid and that is immoral and wage
theft. I hope we as a community decide to do better by our
fellow artists and pay them for their talents and skills.
