REGINE SIXT PRESENTS

THE REGINE SIXT CHILDREN‘S AID FOUNDATION

REGINE SIXT

CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

DEAR FRIENDS,

Every morning that a child opens its eyes to a new day is

a renewed task for us to give the gift of hope, love and

laughter. This moment is what we work for. Unfortunately,

starting a day with hope and confidence is not the privilege

of all children. Whether from poverty, marginalization,

fIeeing war or the devastation caused by a catastrophe,

children are the hardest hit. Every day that has to start

under such influences is one too many. That’s why we act.

Worldwide and on many continents, in over 300 projects in

over 60 countries. But enough is never done. For those of us

who are privileged to live in relative security and prosperity,

every day must also be dedicated to those children who

are having a harder time. Because our privilege is a great

opportunity, the chance to share our happiness, to spread

it, to pass it on. This is our mission. In this issue, I’ll take you to

places where we’ve already made a difference.

ABOUT

OUR ACTIVITIES

The Regine Sixt Children’s Aid

Foundation DRYING LITTLE TEARS

develops and implements projects

in the areas of education, health,

welfare and emergency aid. It is

supported by SIXT employees in

110 countries and works nationally

and internationally to combat

poverty and improve the living

conditions of children worldwide.

For this, the foundation supports

care and education facilities as

well as social welfare institutions.

It also takes measures to improve

the health conditions of children

and provides uncomplicated and

rapid assistance in emergency

situations. The foundation was

established in 2000 by Regine

Sixt as Regine Sixt Kinderhilfe e.V..

In 2011, it was transformed into

a charitable foundation under

civil law. Regine Sixt named her

foundation DRYING LITTLE TEARS.

Today, the foundation is the official

Corporate Social Responsibility

(CSR) program of SIXT SE and an

integral part of the SIXT corporate

culture. Not least because of this,

the Regine Sixt Children’s Aid

Foundation has supported more

than 300 projects in over 60

countries in cooperation with the

SIXT countries and international

long-standing partners.

We work on the basis of the "UN Conventions on the Rights of the Child" of 1989 and we are convinced

that all children should be promoted, protected and respected. That is why our commitment focuses on

the following four areas:

EDUCATION

WELFARE

HEALTH

EMERGENCY AID

HOW WE HELP

E D U C AT I O N

Every child has the right to develop

his or her abilities and to go to

school. However, in many countries

there is a lack of what is needed.

Often, adequately equipped schools

are far out of reach, especially

for children far away from big

cities. We therefore support and

finance the construction of schools

and classrooms, thus improving

local infrastructures. Because only

education guarantees peaceful

coexistence and an economic basis.

KINAKONI

KENYA

SINCE 2022

SCHOOL RENOVATION

About 250 kilometers from Nairobi lies the Kenyan village of

Kinakoni. 5000 people live here, where persistent drought and

lack of rainfall have dried up the soil and the plants growing on it,

almost destroying the villagers‘ livelihood. The region is struggling

with water shortages. At the same time, women, men and their

children are at risk of hunger and poverty. Many of the children

suffer from malnutrition. Their future is at risk. This is where the

Regine Sixt Children‘s Aid Foundation DRYING LITTLE TEARS comes

in, together with the stern Foundation and the Welthungerhilfe.

For the children in Kinakoni, education is an essential and urgently

needed building block that can secure and positively influence

their future. DRYING LITTLE TEARS is providing crucial help here by

financing the renovation of the dilapidated elementary school. As a

result, 250 students can be taught all subjects in nine classrooms and

are given a real chance at a comprehensive education as well as

scholarships. At the same time, employees of the stern Foundation

and the Welthungerhilfe are working with the villagers to research

the structural causes of poverty and hunger and develop solutions

that will promote Kinakoni‘s autonomy and thus improve the villagers‘

living conditions in the long term. The local people should be able

to earn their living independently. They are also supported in this by

Kenyan founders from the growing start-up scene in Nairobi.

HOW WE HELP

WELFARE

Every child has the right to a safe

home, a family environment and

parental care. The reality is often

very different. That’s why we support

the construction of children’s homes,

orphanages and playgrounds around

the world. We renovate daycare

centers, especially for disabled and

disadvantaged children, and where it

is most needed.

WIESBADEN & DRESDEN

GERMANY

2021

FURNISHING OF A LACRIMA ROOM

The loss of a loved one is a tragic event and, especially for children

and teenagers, a severe shock that takes time and support to

overcome. In most cases, relatives are paralyzed and helpless by

their own dismay, so that children suppress and repress their own

feelings in the mistaken assumption that they would otherwise be

a burden to their relatives. Consequently, children often suffer the

consequences of a death to a particular degree. They therefore

need a protected and trusting environment in which they can go

through their personal mourning process and learn how to deal with

their grief. To help children cope with the grief of the death of a

family member, the Regine Sixt Children‘s Aid Foundation DRYING

LITTLE TEARS sponsors the „Lacrima“ initiative of Johanniter-Unfall-

Hilfe e.V.., which accompanies children individually through the

grieving process. The equipment in the Lacrima therapy rooms

in Wiesbaden and Dresden provides the children with a place of

retreat during this difficult time. They grieve together and holistically

with all their senses - by painting, playing, romping or crying together.

HOW WE HELP

HEALTH

Every child has the right to medical

assistance and health care in case

of illness. We therefore support the

construction of hospitals, mobile

medical facilities and intensive

care units in children’s clinics. We

provide medical equipment, and

our employees visit sick children

worldwide to encourage them.

JERUSALEM

ISRAEL

2021

NEW EQUIPMENT FOR EYE HOSPITAL

For 138 years, the St John Eye Hospital has been the only place in

Jerusalem to treat eye diseases. Young and old alike come here

for medical help and advice on eye health. Over the past ten

years, the hospital, which is run by the Order of St John, has trained

ophthalmologists as specialists who can now provide treatment

in every area of ophthalmology. The hospital now enjoys high

international recognition. Given the high poverty rate in the region,

it is vital that the services of St John Eye Hospital continue to be

available free of charge to any patient in need. In the course of

this, the Regine Sixt Children‘s Aid Foundation provided financial

assistance for the necessary reconstruction of the clinic as well as

for the equipment of the clinic‘s own waiting area and reception, thus

enabling the further treatment of children and infants in particular.

In addition, DRYING LITTLE TEARS supported the purchase of new

medical equipment with which children with special eye diseases

can be specifically treated. In this way, the children‘s eyesight can

often be restored, giving them the chance to lead a normal life.

HOW WE HELP

EMERGENCY AID

Every child has the right to protection

in the event of war, flight or after

natural disasters. Disasters regularly

befall people and nations. Children

suffer particularly when this happens.

That is why we support homes and

schools for refugee children, send

necessary materials to disaster areas

and help with reconstruction. It is

precisely in these cases that SIXT’s

global logistics come in handy.

WORLDWIDE

2022

SUPPORT FOR UKRAINIAN REFUGEE CHILDREN

When war broke out in Ukraine in February 2022, thousands of

people, including many children, were forced to flee their homes.

Many fled on foot across the borders of neighboring Poland,

Romania, Moldova, Hungary and Slovakia to escape the lifethreatening

situation in their homeland. Once there, they were

cared for by numerous aid organizations and volunteers who

were on hand to set up tent cities, distribute food and organize

relief supplies. The Regine Sixt Children‘s Aid Foundation DRYING

LITTLE TEARS implemented more than 40 initiatives and projects

to support Ukrainian refugee children throughout Europe. These

include the child-friendly design of various initial reception centers

for Ukrainian refugees. DRYING LITTLE TEARS finances play corners

in numerous facilities throughout Germany. Here, the children can

play together and pass the time in a protected environment. Almost

all of the children who fled Ukraine had to leave their favorite toys

behind in their home country. Here, too, the Regine Sixt Children‘s

Aid Foundation DRYING LITTLE TEARS is providing determined help.

It donated 50 building block sets to several facilities for Ukrainian

refugees run by Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. and the Order of Malta

throughout Germany. Hundreds of Ukrainian children who are

housed in initial reception centers, daycare centers and welcome

facilities thus have the opportunity to play in a child-friendly and

protected environment and to distract themselves a little from their

carefree everyday lives by building castles, huts or caves together.

HOW WE GET ACTIVE

DRYING LITTLE TEARS DAYS

SIXT enables employees to spend

one day a year supporting a

children’s aid project of their choice.

Every year, individuals and, above

all, entire SIXT teams come together

to lend a hand at the institutions.

Playgrounds are built, renovation

work is carried out, gardening work is

done or trips to the zoo or circus are

organized for the children.

During the Easter and Christmas

seasons, SIXT employees visit children

in hospitals, children’s homes and

care facilities around the world.

These visits by the Easter Bunny and

Santa Claus are not only a welcome

distraction for the children, the gifts

also make their small eyes shine.

HOW WE GET ACTIVE

INITIATIVES

Besides our projects worldwide as well as

the commitment of the SIXT employees in

the context of a DRYING LITTLE TEARS DAY,

also numerous initiatives for children in the

immediate surroundings are carried out. Some

initiatives have become a dear tradition and

are carried out every year.

During the Easter- and Christmas visits, children

who cannot spend the holidays at home with

their loved ones are visited in hospitals, to

spread the holiday joy with presents and either

a real-life Easter Bunny or Santa Claus.

During the traditional Munich Oktoberfest,

“Regines Kinderwiesn” takes place since many

years. Regine Sixt invites disadvantaged and

sick children to spend a day at the fairground,

celebrating with delicious Bavarian food,

music, clowns and balloons and trying out the

fairground rides.
