In 1975, <strong>Spencer</strong> spent time at <strong>the</strong> NAA conducting research for his dissertation. As an<br />
alternative <strong>to</strong> ordering pho<strong>to</strong>copies, <strong>Spencer</strong> made recordings <strong>of</strong> himself reading aloud<br />
Hrdlička’s papers as well as documents from <strong>the</strong> NAA’s micr<strong>of</strong>ilm copy <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Franz Boas<br />
<strong>Papers</strong> held at <strong>the</strong> American Philosophical Society. In addition <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong>se recordings are <strong>Spencer</strong>’s<br />
interviews and conversations with Harry Shapiro, Henry Collins, Ashley Montagu, and Lucille<br />
St. Hoyme, and a recording <strong>of</strong> Hrdlička speaking at <strong>the</strong> Wistar Institute in 1942. Also in this<br />
series are audiotapes produced from his early research on <strong>the</strong> Piltdown hoax.<br />
