Photographer captures the essence of
Wanstead Flats and its community
A local photographer
and filmmaker has
launched a multimedia
art project – entitled
Common Ground –
about the people
who use Wanstead
Flats. “The images
are part of my
ongoing exploration
of the Flats. It’s a
collaboration between
myself and the people
that love the area
and use this space
on a daily basis,” said Annick Wolfers, whose
images are displayed along Leytonstone High
Road and linked to online videos in which
her subjects talk about what Wanstead Flats
means to them. “Researching this project has
been a fascinating journey, and in a time of
New HMO
licensing scheme
Redbridge Council
has approved a
new borough-wide
“This means any
property which is
forming two or more
households that
share (or lack) a toilet,
personal washing
needs to have
an HMO licence,”
said a council
spokesperson.
The new rules
Airport to appeal
council decision
London City Airport’s
expansion plans were
unanimously rejected
by Newham Council
last month, citing
noise disturbance
and environmental
impact as major
concerns. The airport
was looking to
increase its annual
passenger cap from
6.5m to 9m and to
extend its cut-off
time for flights on
Saturdays from 1pm
to 6.30pm all year
round and 7.30pm
during the summer
months. The airport
has confirmed that
it will appeal against
the decision.
