A MESSAGE
FROM MARY
The air is still buzzing from all the excitement
of this summer’s U.S. & Canada Convention. Our
theme of Roots & Wings really struck a chord of
knowing the truth. The messages keep coming
with renewed commitment and determination to
create a happy and successful future.
I’m thrilled with our new products. When
Jacob told me that he and Kait were creating
their own line of blends called Simplified, I was
surprised. I asked him what his intention was. He
told me that younger people want blends they
can enjoy without any particular reason except
that they simply smell great. In Young Living, we
have always taught about usage with particular
benefits, so I was curious how their idea would
be accepted.
I have been amazed at the response. I have
heard stories about people who weren’t curious
enough about oils to use them for any particular
reason, but Simplified has created a whole new
interest, which has been a lot of fun. Everyone
loves that Creamsicle aroma, and it really does
smell like a creamsicle. Others love the scent of
Seaside, which makes them feel dreamy, like
floating on a cloud. Tropical Tango makes me
think of dancing and having fun. These first
three blends make the collection for the summer
season, so enjoy your experience of a new way
of simply “enjoying.”
Roots and Wings essential oil blends say
it all for me. I am thrilled to have two of Gary’s
formulas from many years ago come to all of us.
The aroma of Roots is very earthy, and the aroma
of Wings is very ethereal. Gary definitely knew
what he was doing, and I am thrilled that I found
these formulas in a long-forgotten notebook. The
experience is all too much to write here, but I hope
you get my message and don’t miss out on this
fascinating adventure of discovery.
I don’t want to forget our One Purpose
blend, which completes the One by Young
Living Collection. It has a very beautiful,
elegant aroma that everyone loves. Then there’s
the new Balance Skin Care Collection for the
younger generation.
Please send us your stories of discovery with
these products, because each one is unique.
They are inspiring to us and certainly give that
feeling of experiencing something great from
which we all benefit.
I appreciate you all and express gratitude
and love for being part of our great journey,
EXPANDING EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES
AT THE YOUNG LIVING ACADEMY
We’re tripling the size of our school in
Ecuador to provide more children with
access to a quality education
When we first opened the Young Living Academy’s
doors to 67 kindergarten through sixth grade students
in 2009, we believed that the best way to eradicate
poverty and inspire change in the community was to
ensure that the children of Chongón, Ecuador, had
access to a quality education. Students who graduate
from high school are less susceptible to addiction and
exploitation and are more likely to secure higher-paying
jobs, marry and have children when they are ready, and
raise children who are healthier and more educated.
Over the past 13 years, the Academy has grown
to accommodate 350 pre-K–12th grade students and
boasts an impressive 100 percent graduation rate in
a region where only 20 percent of students graduate
high school. To date, 92 percent of our graduates are
enrolled in college or vocational training or have formal,
full-time jobs. And while we want to unlock educational
opportunities for more children in the community, we’re
currently at capacity and are forced to turn away a
heartbreaking number of student applicants because
we simply don’t have the room.
Get involved today and 100
percent of your contribution
will further Gary Young’s
dream to uplift the community
of Chongón, Ecuador.
Currently, the annual acceptance process at the
school is very competitive, and we can only admit
approximately 10 percent of children who apply. That is
why we’re expanding the Academy!
Over the next few years, the school will grow to
accommodate 1,000 students. To achieve this, we
will focus on adding more buildings and classrooms,
onboarding additional teachers, and admitting new
students—all in an effort to raise a well-equipped
generation of change-makers in Ecuador.
We’ll be adding several buildings to our existing
campus to accommodate additional labs for science
and elective classes, libraries, outdoor recreation space,
teachers’ lounges, and 40 new classrooms. As building
progresses, the Academy’s administrators will begin
hiring talented new teachers and staff to support the
needs of a growing school.
You can have a direct impact on carrying forward
Gary’s dream for the children of Chongón by contributing
to the Academy’s exciting growth. Donate directly to
the expansion or start a team fundraiser to sponsor a
classroom. You can also sign up to sponsor a student for
$75 USD per month. When you become a sponsor, you
can not only build a one-on-one relationship with your
student but also support their immediate and long-term
needs at the Academy. Visit YoungLivingFoundation.org/
young-living-academy-expansion for more information
and to get involved today.

BEHIND THE SCENT: THE MAKING OF SIMPLIFIED BY JACOB + KAIT ESSENTIAL OIL BLENDS
Learn about the science and inspiration behind our bestselling line of blends created Just for the smell of it
Simplified by Jacob + Kait essential oil blends
made Young Living history as the first essential oil
line to be entirely focused on scent. It debuted with
a limited-time collection of three dreamy blends
designed to capture the spirit of summer and create
a simple introduction to essential oils. While we wait
for next season’s collection to drop, we’re talking to
creators Jacob and Kaitlyn Young and the scientist
behind the blends, Scott Christian, about how these
blends came to be and what’s in store for 2023.
PAGE 2
What was the inspiration behind Simplified by
Jacob + Kait blends?
Jacob: Many of our Customers and Brand
Partners used those plug-in air fresheners before they
discovered essential oils. And a lot of those release toxic
chemicals into the air—chemicals that can actually
break down your lungs and damage them over time.
So Kait and I saw an opportunity here of how we
could engage our generation and also show them this
entrance into the world of essential oils, because it's so
big and we realized it can be a little bit overwhelming
with how many products we have.
Kaitlyn: We wanted to make something that was
fun and easy and simple that literally anybody from
any age group or any walk of life could use and enjoy
without having to worry about doing something wrong.
“In the synthetic world, you have
over 3,000 synthetic fragrances
to choose from, whereas in the
organic scent world, there's only
about 200.”
Which blend was the most difficult to formulate?
Scott: That was definitely the Seaside essential oil
blend. As we met together weekly looking at different
blends, Jacob was like, “I want it salty, Scott, come on;
we want a salty scent.” And I kept telling him we could
easily make that if we wanted to go the synthetic route.
Jacob: Yeah, that was challenging because like
Scott said, it's really easy in the fragrance world to
create these fragrances with synthetics, but that's not
how we do things here at Young Living.
I remember the first batch that we did with seaweed.
It wasn't even that much—but, man, when we diffused
it, it stunk up the whole room. That’s why the Seaside
blend has the smallest amount of seaweed extract in
there, just to capture that hint of salt. We've had a lot
of members who live by the beach say, “You hit this
right on the head—this is spot on.”
You said that the Seaside scent was by far the most
difficult to nail down. What was the process like for the
Tropical Tango and Orange Creamsicle scents?
Scott: If I remember correctly, we accepted the
Orange Creamsicle blend on the first rendition.
Jacob: Yeah, we approved the Orange Creamsicle
scent on the first try. With the Tropical Tango blend,
we added a bit more limonene after the first round, but
that was pretty much it.
Scott is spot on when it comes to scent. I remember
when I was making blends with my dad, there’d be some
blends that I was like, “Dad, this smells absolutely awful.”
And he’d say, “Well, if it smells good, then that’s just a
plus because we’re creating these blends for a purpose.”
So it was challenging for me because I’ve never focused
primarily on creating a blend just for the scent. That’s why
Scott has been so helpful in this process. He went to a
fragrance school, and he really knows what to mix in and
how to get that to a place where we are really happy with it.
What’s the hardest part about creating new blends?
Jacob: The big challenge with natural fragrances
that we talked about at the U.S. & Canada Convention
is that in the synthetic world, you have over 3,000
synthetic fragrances to choose from, whereas in the
organic scent world, there’s only about 200.
Scott: Yeah, the International Fragrance Association
just released their Transparency List—the perfumer’s
palette—and There are 3,619 total ingredients registered.
Of those, 992 are considered natural, but by Young Living
standards, it’s about 200. So we have less than 10 percent
of the palette, which is an opportunity to innovate and
create like we did with these three new scents.
Aside from the Fall, Winter, and Spring Collections
you have planned, can you give us a hint of where you
hope to take the line in the future?
Jacob: We’re expanding the Simplified line next
year, while also bringing back everyone’s favourite
scents. It’s still going to be a limited number, but we
are going to increase that number tenfold from what
it was last time, because we weren’t expecting it to sell
out so quickly.
Be on the lookout for the next collection coming
spring 2023! For more exciting details about our
YOUNG LIVING EXPANDS HORIZONS WITH FIRST FARM IN JAPAN
The Okinawa Farm will grow shell ginger and house a research laboratory
As part of Young Living’s efforts to discover and
share powerful new essential oils with our global
community, we were introduced to shell ginger in
2021 by Dr. Je Tae Woo, a world-leading research
scientist working for Young Living APAC. After
reviewing Dr. Woo’s research, the Young Living farm
team and Dr. Woo worked together to select, vet, and
test land suitable for the cultivation and research
of shell ginger. After intensive vetting following the
protocols of our rigorous Seed to Seal® quality
commitment, Young Living purchased the land that
is now home to the Okinawa Farm.
Shell ginger is a perennial plant that produces
light-pink flowers in March and May and small red
fruits in October and November. Since ancient times,
shell ginger has been part of life in Okinawa, where it
is used as a food, beverage, and traditional remedy.
Before purchasing the property, Dr. Woo and
the farm team tested the soil for over 300 chemical
components metals to ensure that the shell ginger
grown here would be free from contamination. Within
Shell Ginger essential oil, researchers have identified
two constituents named DK (5,6-dehydrokawain)and
DDK(Dihydro-5,6-dehydrokawain), which have been
researched for their association with human longevity.
The farm team is actively creating partnerships
with the Okinawa government, neighbouring
universities, and the local community to create
systems that will ensure the farm contributes to the
Seed to Seal values of conservation, reforestation,
regenerative agriculture, and economic development
in Okinawa. The Okinawa Farm is located in a
national park, and farm operations are held to
high environmental standards. Though the farm
already operates in a way that minimizes impact
and protects the island’s delicate ecosystem, Young
Living is continuously striving to make improvements
to help protect and regenerate the local ecosystem.
Did you know?
• The Okinawa Farm is located in one of the
planet’s “blue zones”—areas in the world with a
high concentration of people who live healthy
lives well beyond the average life expectancy.
• The five “blue zones” where locals exhibit
extraordinary longevity are:
1. Ikaria Island in Greece
2. Okinawa in Japan
3. Sardinia Island in Italy
Within Shell Ginger essential oil,
researchers have identified a
pair of main constituents called
DK and DDK, which have been
researched for their association
with human longevity.
4. Loma Linda in California, USA
5. Nicoya Peninsula in Costa Rica
• The forests near the Okinawa Farm are a
sanctuary to the Yambarukuina, a rare bird found
only in this region of the world.
• In the future, the Okinawa Farm will house a
laboratory where scientists will conduct intensive
research on the properties of Shell Ginger essential oil.
Young Living co-founder and CEO Mary Young had
this to say about the new farm: “Young Living’s newest
farm is located on the beautiful island of Okinawa,
Japan. This farm is surrounded by a natural forest and
the island’s subtropical climate is home to an immense
biodiversity of flora and fauna. Okinawa was once
called the land of immortals, due to the longevity of
the people who call this island home. This new farm is
still under development, but we hope to invite Brand
Partners to visit our first farm in the Asia Pacific region
in the near future.”

NO-BAKE VEGAN
PUMPKIN CHEESECAKE
With the holiday season fast approaching, this raw, no-bake pumpkin
cheesecake is a delicious way to wow your family and friends without any dairy,
refined sugar, or gluten. This recipe uses Young Living Plus oils to bring out
flavour and depth and will leave your guests begging for more.
Crystal Parrott published her first recipe book in 2007 to
make her wheat-, dairy-, and sugar-free recipes available to
her clients. Her passion for health and cooking is what led
her to pursue a culinary degree. She focuses on creating
amazingly delicious recipes; and as a Young Living brand
partner, she looks for exciting new ways to include our
selection of Vitality oils and blends.
CRUST INGREDIENTS
• 1 cup raw pecans
• ½ cup pitted and chopped
dates
• ¼ teaspoon Himalayan salt
• 1 drop Cinnamon Bark+
essential oil
• 1 drop Ginger+ essential oil
FILLING
• 2⅓ cup raw cashews
• 1½ cup fresh-cooked or canned
pumpkin puree
• ¼ cup coconut oil, melted or
softened
• ¼ cup full-fat coconut cream
• ⅓ cup maple syrup
• ¼ cup maple sugar
• 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
• ½ teaspoon Himalayan salt
• 1 teaspoon vanilla
• 2 drops Cinnamon Bark+
essential oil
• 1 drop Ginger+ essential oil
• ½ teaspoon dried clove spice
• 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
• 4 teaspoons agar agar
• 8–10 tablespoons boiling water
TOPPING
• 25 pecans, or enough to cover
the circumference of the
cheesecake
• Full-fat coconut cream or
whipping cream
• Ground cinnamon
DIRECTIONS
Crust: Using the bottom of a 6-inch springform pan as a template, cut a circle
out of parchment paper and place it in the bottom of the pan. Add the pecans, dates,
Himalayan salt, Cinnamon Bark+, and Ginger+ into a high-powered blender or food
processor. Process until the mixture starts to stick together. It should be medium to
fine grind with no large chunks. Empty the mixture into the pan and press it into the
bottom using a flat-bottomed glass until it is firm and even.
Filling: Cover the cashews in boiling water and soak for a minimum of two hours.
Remove the cashews from the water and pat dry. Add the cashews, pumpkin puree,
coconut oil, coconut cream, maple syrup, maple sugar, fresh lemon juice, Himalayan
salt, vanilla, Cinnamon Bark+, Ginger+, ground clove, and ground nutmeg into your
high-powered blender. Blend until the mixture is silky smooth. Prepare the agar
agar with 8–10 tablespoons of water in a small pot and bring to a boil. Using a
whisk, make sure that there are no lumps, the mixture is very smooth, and it does
not burn or stick to the bottom of the pot. Add the agar agar mixture to the filling
and blend it again to just incorporate without overmixing. Pour the batter over the
crust, scraping the bowl with a rubber spatula to ensure you get all the filling out of
the blender. Smooth out the top.
Topping: Lightly toast the pecans in the oven or a frying pan before placing
them around the circumference of the cheesecake. Place the cheesecake in
the refrigerator overnight. If the cheesecake does not fully set up, place it in
the freezer 1–2 hours before serving and removing from the springform pan. Be
sure to place the springform around the cheesecake before placing it back in
the fridge or freezer. Serve with whipped coconut cream or whipping cream if
desired and garnish with ground cinnamon.
ASK AN EXPERT: MEGAN FOSTER
Silver, British Columbia, Canada
PAGE 4
We interviewed essential oils expert and Silver
leader Megan Foster of British Columbia, Canada,
to find out how she uses oils throughout her day,
her business building-hacks and which Young Living
products she always has on hand.
Do you have any routines you follow with
essential oils?
First thing every morning, I make my NingXia
cocktail. I combine Inner Beauty Collagen,
Sulfurzyme®, Golden Turmeric, Slique® Essence,
NingXia Red® and NingXia Zyng. I know it sounds
like a lot—but it gives me, a mom of a toddler, what I
need to get through the day.
Do you keep essential oils by your bed? If so,
what do you use them for?
My nighttime essentials include Tranquil Roll-
On, plus Cedarwood and Northern Lights Black
Spruce in the diffuser. This helps set the scene for a
peaceful night.
Have you ever been to a Young Living farm? If so,
what were your impressions?
I’ve been to the Young Living Lavender Farm and
Distillery in Mona, Utah, USA, and the Kona Sandalwood
Reforestation Project in Hawaii. Both were amazing,
but I particularly loved Hawaii. It was such a unique
experience, and I really enjoyed seeing firsthand how
Young Living takes care of the land.
What are some lesser-known essential oils or
other Young Living products that you think people
should try? How do you suggest they use them?
I think the RutaVaLa Roll-On is a hidden gem.
Boy, does it ever work. I use it on the bottoms of my
feet before bed and feel so rested when I wake up.
I seem to be better able to focus the next day too.
There are a lot of essential oil brands out there.
Why do you choose Young Living?
I choose Young Living because of the integrity
behind the company. I’ve always felt comfortable
and confident that I am with a company that cares
about their members more than profit. The Seed to
Seal® quality commitment was another reason I felt
confident using these oils for natural wellness. I knew
I didn’t need to worry about my oils and products
containing anything other than pure essential oils.
I knew I didn’t need to worry
about my oils and products
containing anything other than
pure essential oils.
What products are in your Essential Rewards
order? What do you use them for?
NingXia Red, Life 9 and Super B are always
in my Essential Rewards cart! I can’t go a day
without any of them. NingXia supports my healthy
energy levels and ensures I get great nutrients from
superfruits. Life 9 has supported my gut health more
than any other probiotic I’ve taken, and Super B
keeps my hair, skin, nails and even mood healthy.
What is your best business-building advice?
If I could give one piece of advice for growing a
Young Living business, it would be sharing the results,
not the products. Create an emotional connection with
your target audience. Make sure they know what our
products or the business opportunity can do for them.
Focus on the person, not the sale. Being consistent in
this way has allowed me to create some of the best
relationships and consistently earn a spot with the top
enrollers in Canada over the past two years.
Many thanks to Megan for sharing her thoughts
YOUNG LIVING PERCHERONS IN THE LEAD
Watch a new generation of teamsters on the rise.
“The lessons they are
learning in the barn just
cannot be taught in a
classroom.”
The Young Living Percheron team continues
their long string of wins this summer, holding a
first-place standing in the North American Classic
Series. While winning is nothing new to this
experienced team, it is new to the next generation
of teamsters who are learning to walk—or rather
drive—in their parents’ galloping footsteps.
Rylen and Brynn Sparrow are seventhgeneration
teamsters, the children of Percheron
Team Managers Tim and Brittany Sparrow. As
the youngest members of the Young Living team,
Rylen and Brynn compete in youth decorating,
youth showmanship, youth judging, and youth
cart through the North American Classic Series
Youth Program. This program offers scholarships
to graduating youth in the draft horse industry
and gives children the opportunity to apply their
mentorship to further education.
We’re honoured to have Rylen and Brynn as
our representatives and look forward to seeing
them impact the future of the draft horse industry.
After all, Gary and Mary Young have always felt
that doing our part to make a healthier world
does not stop with our products—it also comes
from empowering the world’s young.
While Tim and Brittany are also proud to
watch their children take home award ribbons,
they say that the real prize comes from seeing
the hard work, dedication, and connection Rylen
and Brynn have created with their horses. As the
parents often say, “The lessons they are learning
in the barn just cannot be taught in a classroom.”
