The exhibition (in)
habit was held as
part of the WOM.A -
Women in Arts
festival at the
building of the
Association of Greek
Archaeologists on
May 30th -31st and
June 1st, 2023
(in)habit επιχειρούν να

Through everyday situations, the
artists of the exhibition (in)habit
attempt to map the threshold between
private and public space.
Installations with mixed media,
video and sound compositions
“inhabit” an odd house and set
up a makeshift laboratory where
one may observe fragments of
the outside.
An unstable pile of sharp metallic
objects prevents us from walking
into the room, while tempting us
to approach. Nicoleta composes
discarded materials and household
objects in an exploration
of how they can shape ou self
perception, our bodies and the
space around us. She observes
their influential character and
reduces them to parts of
everyday constructions. She
looks at her reflection in the
mirror with an introspective gaze
that flickers.
Maria’s desk has been turned
into a study of urban remnants.
Her practice is based on walking.
She makes short stops for “excavations”,
collects abandoned or
overlooked fragments and
12
returns to her workshop where
she reconstructs multiple
multi-sensorial maps of the city,
not of a specific city but of the
city as an experience, as a sense
of place. Raw material elements,
blurry audio memories and
studies of texture, condense time
and experience. Small weeds are
carried inside, as mementoes in a
box, as if they were a rare species
of vegetation, in an attempt to
“root” in this temporary home.
Georgia brings her pet with her
and in a paradoxical way she
almost literally shares an inner
aspect of its dimension. X-ray, the
diagnostic tool that represents
the skeleton, the structure that
supports us, and its possible
fractures, turns a clinical practice
into a sensitive process of tracing
cracks. The grain-filled image
almost makes us hear white
noise. The cat’s purring calms
the inhabitants and reduces their
sleep disturbances.
Inside an unnerving sanctuary,
Eirini pauses and takes notes.
She seeks a small refuge, even
smaller than her house and she
isolates herself in a bathtub. The
everyday object is literally overturned
and transformed into a
protective shell. Her attempt to
mute every sound or erase any
stimulus and her need for
security, work as relief and as fear
at the same time. The fear lies in
the dimension of a “prison” which
even the voluntary isolation may
take.
Anna’s collection of family and
friend photos is lying on the floor.
“EVERYTHING WILL BE FINE”. This
phrase is ironically reassuring, as
the world surrenders to destruction.
The coexistence of the faces
in the photos with the thick smoke
seems absurdly normal. A contradiction
that leads us to an awkward
identification, as it reminds us of
passivity. Her instructions are clear!
We live along with our habits. We
often repeat them mechanically
until something disrupts us.

She (you) couldn’t know but it was always
there, that weight.
It followed her (you) in every step. In every up.
In every down.
Compressed in nowhere, that weight was real,
always there, affecting everything.
The society was the principal
Using her (your) hands.
She (you) was(were) the tool and she (you)
was(were) the victim.
Behind the mask of the doom, the constructs
were hiding in the nowhere to construct that
weight.
She (you) could see the traces, and trace after
trace that weight took shape.
It was beside, behind and everywhere.
Following the traces she (you) couldn’t find out
the end; it was everywhere and nowhere.
Sometimes it was a shadow, sometimes it was
on, sometimes it was in.
Sometimes it was her (you). It doesn’t matter
she (you) couldn’t find the end; the shape
carries the awareness, and the awareness
highlights the weight.
Her (your) hands turned to construct that
weight, make it touchable and real.
It is no more besides, behind, above or inside.
Now it’s in the center and she (you) can face it.

καταγράψει in situ εγκαταστάσεις και performances,

Was born in Thessaloniki in 1996.
She studied at the Faculty of Visual and
Applied Arts of the School of Fine Art of AUTh
and she graduated in 2021. Since 2022, she
has been attending the postgraduate
interdisciplinary programme “Art and Public
Sphere” at the Faculty of Visual and Applied
Arts of the School of Fine Art and the Faculty
of Economic and Political Sciences of the
School of Political Sciences of AUTh.
She creates constructions of various materials
and utilitarian objects, digital paintings,
epoxy-cast resin, and more. Her primary
matter consists mostly of findings in the public
space which is re-interpreted through her
artistic practice. She underlines space through
personal interventions (self- constructions),
leaving few or no trace. She uses photography
and video to record in situ installations and
performances, which usually take place in
abandoned industrial locations and the
neighborhoods of Thessaloniki. Her research
has focused, among other topics, to the
confinement during the pandemic and gender
identity.
She currently lives and works in Thessaloniki.
