Unity Through Diversity: The Power of Unity is a biennial health, wellness, and capacity-building national conference for LGBTQIA+ Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC). The focus of the 2023 conference is “The Power of Unity,” and its purpose is to lift the voices of LGBTQIA+ BIPOC communities while promoting social justice, healthy sexuality, violence-free living, social activism, and safer spaces. As In Our Own Voices celebrates its 25th year of strengthening and empowering our communities, we look forward to making this Unity Through Diversity the most impactful one yet.

Welcoming All Hospitality Room | Empire A Meals<br />

<strong>The</strong> planning committee for<br />

<strong>Unity</strong> <strong>Through</strong> <strong>Diversity</strong> has<br />

worked hard to make this<br />

health conference welcoming<br />

and accessible to all<br />

attendees. In the spirit <strong>of</strong> <strong>Unity</strong><br />

<strong>Through</strong> <strong>Diversity</strong>, please help<br />

us create an atmosphere at<br />

the conference where all<br />

people are welcome and<br />

respected. Be inclusive <strong>of</strong><br />

attendees' identities, abilities,<br />

and self-expression.<br />

In Our Own Voices, Inc., staff<br />

members and <strong>Unity</strong> <strong>Through</strong><br />

<strong>Diversity</strong> volunteers will be<br />

available if you require<br />

assistance at any time during<br />

the conference. Please speak to staff<br />

at the registration booth in East<br />

Gallery if assistance is needed.<br />

Timeliness<br />

<strong>Unity</strong> <strong>Through</strong> <strong>Diversity</strong> has<br />

many important and<br />

interesting workshops, panels<br />

and other presentations. In<br />

order for the health<br />

conference to run smoothly<br />

and for attendees to get the<br />

most out <strong>of</strong> it, it is important<br />

that individuals are punctual.<br />

Smoking &<br />

Vaping Areas<br />

<strong>The</strong> Hilton Albany does not<br />

allow smoking or vaping in<br />

meeting areas or hotel rooms.<br />

Please only smoke in designated<br />

smoking areas. If you are<br />

unsure, please ask a Hilton Albany<br />

staff member for assistance.<br />

During the conference, there will be a<br />

designated hotel room for<br />

participants to access 24/7. <strong>The</strong> room<br />

will contain beverages, snacks, and<br />

games, among other items. All snacks<br />

and beverages provided are free, with<br />

specialty non-alcoholic beverages<br />

sponsored by Sans Bar.<br />

Healing Room | Capital AB<br />

<strong>The</strong> healing room is available from 9<br />

AM - 5 PM. This is a space to<br />

decompress and heal, whether on<br />

your own or in a small group guided<br />

by our healing room facilitator, Brisa Galarza.<br />

You may drop in at any time and spend<br />

as much or as little time as you would<br />

like. A schedule <strong>of</strong> guided<br />

activities throughout the conference<br />

can be found in the room.<br />

Art Room | State A<br />

<strong>The</strong> art room is available from 9 AM -<br />

5 PM. This is a space to express<br />

yourself, channel your creativity, and<br />

let your artistic energy be free in a<br />

number <strong>of</strong> ways, including painting,<br />

drawing, collage making, and more.<br />

You may drop in at any time and<br />

spend as much or as little time as<br />

you would like. A schedule <strong>of</strong><br />

guided activities throughout the<br />

conference can be found in the room.<br />

Counseling Room | State B<br />

<strong>The</strong> counseling room is available from<br />

9 AM - 5 PM. This is a safe, confidential<br />

space to receive support from<br />

counselors around anything that may<br />

come up, including triggers, a need<br />

for disclosure, or simply to connect<br />

with someone to process new or<br />

challenging information.<br />

HIV / Hep C Testing | Empire B<br />

Free, confidential HIV/Hep C testing is<br />

available from 9 AM - 5 PM. To<br />

register for a slot, visit the registration<br />

booth in East Gallery and speak to a<br />

<strong>Unity</strong> <strong>Through</strong> <strong>Diversity</strong> staff member<br />

at the desk.<br />

Registration includes breakfast<br />

and lunch. Snacks will be available<br />

throughout the weekend. Dinner<br />

will not be provided.<br />

Photography<br />

In order to document this special<br />

event, conference staff and volunteers<br />

will be photographing individuals in<br />

workshops and activities throughout<br />

the health conference. By registering<br />

for <strong>Unity</strong> <strong>Through</strong> <strong>Diversity</strong>, attendees<br />

are consenting to being<br />

photographed and/or videotaped by<br />

conference staff unless they are<br />

wearing a red lanyard. As an attendee,<br />

please do not photograph or<br />

videotape any fellow attendees with<br />

red lanyards unless given direct<br />

consent. If you have any questions or<br />

concerns, please speak to staff at the<br />

registration booth in East Gallery.<br />

Name Tags<br />

Please wear your <strong>Unity</strong> <strong>Through</strong><br />

<strong>Diversity</strong> name tag at all times.<br />

Your name tag is your pass to all<br />

workshops, presentations, dining<br />

areas and events for the duration<br />

<strong>of</strong> the conference. If your name<br />

tag becomes lost, please report<br />

immediately to the registration<br />

desk with your photo ID to receive<br />

a new name tag.<br />

Meet-Ups<br />

In addition to Workshops and<br />

Roundtables, we encourage<br />

attendees to participate in<br />

organized Meet-ups, which act as<br />

small-group discussions for topics<br />

that may not have been covered in<br />

depth in longer sessions or act as<br />

a continuation <strong>of</strong> those sessions.<br />

Meet-ups are independently<br />

organized by attendees and speakers<br />

outside <strong>of</strong> the <strong>of</strong>ficial conference<br />

schedule, but we encourage all<br />

attendees to participate in any<br />

Meet-ups that interest them.<br />
