COMMUNITY NEWS
Over the school year our community development officers will
be delivering rugby sessions to schools in the local community
through Project Rugby.
The programme is run by Premiership Rugby in collaboration
with England Rugby and designed to increase participation
in the game by people from traditionally under-represented
groups. These groups are ethnically diverse communities,
people from Lower socio-economic backgrounds and disabled
people.
Our community development officers have been attending local
schools including Kingsmeadow, Peterlee, Newburn and South
Tyneside College this term aiming to transition students into
grassroots clubs or their sustained involvement in the game.
Community development officer Stephen Parsons, who has
been delivering sessions to Kingsmeadow, said: “The Girls have
engaged well with the new skills, laws, complex nature of the
game and the introduction of contact and tackling. It’s great to
information required to ensure safe and effective tackles.”
If this is a programme that you would like to provide in your
school or college, or require further information, please email
falconscommunity@newcastle-falcons.co.uk.
