The Nordic Swan Ecolabel
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel is a certificate that
makes it easy for you to find the most environmentally
friendly products. This award ensures
that pieces of furniture, for example, meet high
environmental, health, quality and safety standards.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel stands for strict
standards
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel guarantees that the
complete journey of the product - from raw
material to production, use, disposal and reuse -
is taken into account when setting the standards
for the labeled products. Among other things,
the products have to meet high chemical standards,
which in turn is good for your health and
that of your children, for the people who make
the product and for the environment. The standards
are constantly updated and tightened, so
you can always be sure that products marked
with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel are ecologically
sustainable and therefore a good choice for the
environment and health.
For example, the wood used in the Nordic Swan
Ecolabel furniture must come from trees that have
been proven to be legally felled and the place of
origin must be traceable. A large part of the wood
must also come from certified sustainable forestry.
The furniture must also not contain chemicals such
as phthalates, heavy metals, certain flame retardants
or fluorinated substances, which are endocrine
disrupting substances that have a disruptive
effect on the hormone system. Furthermore, the
adhesive and paint used must not contain any carcinogenic
substances and there are strict requirements
regarding the evaporation of the surface
treatment products.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel also has strict requirements
for the longevity of the furniture,
as most of the environmental impact occurs
during production and the longer a piece
of furniture lasts, the less that needs to be
made. That is why the Nordic Swan Ecolabel
is also a seal of approval for quality, durability
and reusability.
What dose this mean for you and your
children?
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel on your furniture
means that you are helping to protect the
world’s forests. It means taking responsibility
and addressing what chemicals you want to
keep out of your home and out of nature. It
means you want to protect the limited natural
resources we still have. It means you can feel
confident that the furniture has been made
responsibly, with your children’s future and
the environment in mind.
The Nordic Swan Ecolabel on your furniture
also means that you don’t have to worry
about your children’s health when they move
in, around and around the furniture. Since
the furniture does not emit any harmful
substances, you can try it out. Be warned
though: they taste rather bland.
Children’s furniture in particular has to be
able to withstand a lot and when you choose
furniture with the Nordic Swan Ecolabel you
can be sure that you are getting sturdy and
durable furniture that will stay whole - even
under the extraordinary strain of particularly
creative children.
In other words, the Nordic Swan Ecolabel
guarantees you long-lasting quality and respect
for the environment, for you, your
children and the future.
”Furniture that has been awarded
the Nordic Swan Ecolabel meets
strict environmental, health and
quality standards. The furniture
has been tested for strength, safety
and stability using international test
standards. This means you get a durable
piece of furniture for your child
to sleep and play in. It also means
your child doesn’t come into contact
with unwanted chemicals through
inhalation or close contact with the
furniture.”
