Sounds In Focus is a whole-school phonics programme that has been designed and<br />
developed around a phonemic awareness approach to learning to spell. In addition, it builds<br />
vocabulary and ensures that words are used in context. Grammar elements are also built into<br />
the units, ensuring that teachers can work on these essential areas of writing in a holistic way.<br />
‘We have been using Sounds In Focus and found that it combines the focus on<br />
phonemes and graphemes in the teaching of spellings. We also felt that this<br />
programme would bring a focus back to phonics in the senior classes. We found the<br />
brainstorming session on the introduction of each sound to be beneficial for the children,<br />
whilst the downloadable games and activities acted as effective reinforcement.’<br />
