<strong>Ashland</strong> Garden Club Welcomes Spring!<br />
Spring is always an exciting<br />
time for everyone who welcomes<br />
the warmer weather and longer<br />
days.<br />
Who doesn’t love watching<br />
to see what perennials made it<br />
through the freezing days and<br />
nights of Winger in New England<br />
and the excitement of planting<br />
new flowers once the days and<br />
nights warm the soil.<br />
Spring is a particularly exciting<br />
time for members of the<br />
<strong>Ashland</strong> Garden Club. Mid -to-<br />
Late <strong>April</strong> is when we change<br />
the planters we plant and maintain<br />
around the downtown<br />
area from the sedate greens<br />
of Winter to colorful Spring<br />
plants (Fountain at Montenegro<br />
Square, Post Office, Community<br />
Center, Town Hall). We also<br />
add plants to the in-ground sites<br />
that the <strong>Ashland</strong> Garden Club<br />
plants and maintains (Library<br />
grounds, Post Office grounds,<br />
Clock Tower Garden, Community<br />
Center Garden). Enjoy<br />
these before and after photos of<br />
the fountain planter in Montenegro<br />
Square across the street<br />
from the Library and watch for<br />
this <strong>April</strong>’s plantings.<br />
The <strong>Ashland</strong> Garden Club<br />
usually meets the second Saturday<br />
of September through<br />
June. Each May we hold our<br />
annual sale of plants that we dig<br />
out of our own gardens. This<br />
year’s plant sale is Saturday May<br />
18, 9:00-12:00 at Montenegro<br />
Square.<br />
We use the months of July<br />
and August rewarding ourselves<br />
by visiting each other’s gardens<br />
during what we call Wine in the<br />
Garden.<br />

The Harold B. Walker Scholarship<br />
is available for qualified<br />
candidates for the <strong>2024</strong>-2025<br />
academic year. Applicants must<br />
be a graduate of <strong>Ashland</strong> High<br />
School and have successfully<br />
completed four full semesters or<br />
the equivalent of 50 percent of<br />
the post-secondary program in<br />
which the applicant is enrolled.<br />
Applicants must be currently<br />
in their junior year of college<br />
and the scholarship, if received,<br />
would be applied to their senior<br />
year or graduate school.<br />
A completed application will<br />
include the completed application<br />
page, a letter of interest<br />
from the applicant, detailing<br />
reasons for applying for the<br />
scholarship, and an official college/university<br />
transcript; an<br />
electronic copy of the transcript<br />
is acceptable. A resume is not required,<br />
but preferred.<br />
The deadline for application<br />
submission is Wednesday,<br />
May 1st at 3:00pm. All completed<br />
applications must be<br />
mailed directly to the <strong>Ashland</strong><br />
