‘SUP Medway offers free program for parents on April 25
“How to Use Brain Science for Parenting
Modern Teens & Tweens”
As part of its Building Bright
Brains campaign, Substance
Abuse Prevention Medway (or
“‘SUP Medway”) will be hosting
a free program entitled “How to
Use Brain Science for Parenting
Modern Teens & Tweens”
on April 25 at 7 p.m. in person
at Thayer Homestead and via
livestream.
Live Spanish translation will
be available for this event, and
door prizes will be raffled off at
the in-person portion.
“The ‘SUP Medway coalition
is a group of community
members of all ages and roles
who work together to reduce the
likelihood of Medway Youth getting
involved in underage drinking
and vaping,” said Coalition
Coordinator Stephanie Simeon.
“The ‘Building Bright Brains’
campaign was born out of local
parents recognizing the gap
that parents do not get regular
education about modern drug
concerns and best practices for
prevention.”
The April program will feature
neurodevelopment expert
and therapist Dr. Crystal Collier,
who is the author of The Neurowhereabouts
Guide and creator
of www.KnowYourNeuro.
org. She has spent her adult life
understanding the science behind
risky behavior and distilling
the research into practical tips
for busy parents. She has done
extensive research on a list of 18
risky behaviors that include technology
overuse, self-injury, drug
use, vaping, and underage drinking,
just to name a few.
With the latest brain development
research, Collier will share
ways to support healthy brain development
for kids. She will share
skills to prevent high risk behaviors
and encourage executive
function skills at each life stage.
“The more you know about
your kids’, grandkids’, and students’
brain development journey,
the better equipped you are
to get the behavior results you
are looking for…‘SUP Medway
is bringing in this expert educator,
therapist, and author to empower
you in your parenting,”
Simeon said. “Brain development
continues up until 25 years
old and is influenced by our environment
and choices.”
This event is geared toward
all caregivers (parents, grandparents,
babysitters, coaches,
educators, etc.) of middle or
high school aged youth. In-person
seats are first reserved for
