PREFACE
The purpose of this section of the Index-Catalogue of
Medical and Veterinary Zoology is to make available
the bibliographic records on Nematoda and Nematode
diseases of animals that have accumulated in the
parasite files of the Index-Catalogue during 1920-64.
It is a continuation, in part, of the Roundworm Catalogue
compiled by C. W. Stiles and A. Hassall, which
was published as Hygienic Laboratory Bulletin No.
114. References appearing after 1964 will be found in
the Nematoda sections of the Index-Catalogue from
Supplements 15 on.
Users should bear in mind that this is an Index-
Catalogue, not a treatise, and should not expect to
find reasons for any given entry. Nor does citing of
synonymy mean that it is necessarily correct. The
same statement holds for hosts, body locations, and
geographic localities cited. All possible care has been
taken to make this publication as accurate as possible.
But in a compilation of this scope extending over a
period of 44 years and representing the cumulated efforts
of many individuals, the manner of recording information
and the style have varied. Our task has
been to make these records as consistent as possible
and to correct obvious errors.
As in other publications of this series, the Index-
Catalogue: Authors must be used as the bibliographical
key. Persons requiring copies of the Author Catalogues,
2d edition (parts 1-18) and Supplements
1-14, and the reprinted Roundworm Catalogue may
obtain them as lorig as supplies last by submitting a
request to the Biosystematic Parasitology Laboratory,
Animal Parasitology Institute, Agricultural Research
Service, USDA, Beltsville, MD 20705.
Copies may also be purchased from the National
Technical Information Service, 5285 Port Royal Road,
Springfield, VA 22161.
The style used follows the pattern of the Roundworm
Catalogue; that is, entries are arranged alphabetically
by genera, parasitic diseases, and higher taxa and then
alphabetically by species within genera. Entries under
each heading are in turn arranged alphabetically by
authors except that authors of new taxa are given first.
The assistance of Shirley J. Edwards and the staff of
the Index-Catalogue and Dr. J. Ralph Lichtenfels is
gratefully acknowledged.
