have dual water systems: drinking water for the kitchen and washing, and
rainwater for the WC and irrigation. When possible, groups take the water
from springs and wells, and there is also a reedbed sewage treatment system
serving for several houses in one region.
About 50% of the food consumed is grown inside of Damanhur
with organic agriculture and many groups have their own gardens and
greenhouses. Additional items are purchased in the communities’ organic
market, which is open to the whole valley.
Research
Born inside of ‘The School of Meditation’, the spiritual pathway of
Damanhur, there are groups of people who experience personal and
spiritual growth through a specific field of research. These paths are called
the ‘Ways’. They allow each person to develop talents that can be put into
service for the betterment of the individual and the entire community. Every
Damanhurian chooses a ‘Way’, some even two.
The ‘Way of the Oracle’ is closely connected to ritual aspects, to the
relationship with forces of the spiritual ecosystem.
The ‘Way of the Knights’ is intimately involved in building and
maintaining the ‘Temples of Humankind’ and in the protection of
Damanhurian territories.
The ‘Way of the Monks and Esoteric Couples’ is involved with the
research of vital energy, individually or in a couple. This energy can be
transformed and used for growth.
The ‘Way of Health’ includes people involved in wide-ranging research
that covers all aspects of healthcare: researchers, healers, doctors, holistic
operators.
The ‘Way of Art and Word’ is the path for those who want to research
spirituality through all forms of art, including music, written and spoken
word, politics, teaching, and theater.
There are also smaller groups that take the name of ‘Indirizzo’, which can
be translated as ‘branches’. These are:
A group focuses on all areas linked to education ‘Indirizzo Education’;
A group that focuses on growth in their daily work and is called ‘Indirizzo
Work and Art’;
A group that focuses on self-sufficiency, ecology and agriculture called
