1920-1921<br />
The district super<strong>in</strong>tendent Antonio M<strong>in</strong>to<br />
starts the exploration of both terraces. For<br />
the first time these are carefully exam<strong>in</strong>ed,<br />
described and <strong>in</strong>terpreted as public ‘thermal<br />
baths’.<br />
1931-1932<br />
downstream via Pietra a Padule, dur<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
excavations for the Casa del Fascio foundations,<br />
other ru<strong>in</strong>s are discovered. The excavation<br />
directed by doro Levi, br<strong>in</strong>gs to light another<br />
build<strong>in</strong>g with rural rooms as well as a<br />
thermal implant and its ‘Villa of the mosaics’<br />
1957<br />
Upstream via Pietra a Padule, dur<strong>in</strong>g the<br />
build<strong>in</strong>g up of the elementary school, ru<strong>in</strong>s<br />
of two floors are discovered. They lay circa 1<br />
mt under the current street level.<br />
‘60<br />
The mosaics of the ‘villa’, hardly removed<br />
and badly restored, <strong>in</strong> 1961 are placed <strong>in</strong> the<br />
frigidarium and <strong>in</strong> the corridor.<br />
1969<br />
Mauro Cristofani directs the renovation of<br />
the build<strong>in</strong>gs and a survey <strong>in</strong> the ‘villa’. He<br />
announces a brick fragment sigled from the<br />
Venuleis’.<br />

1970-1978<br />
The Antiquarium is set up next to the ru<strong>in</strong>s of<br />
via Pietra a Padule. It’s <strong>in</strong>augurated <strong>in</strong> 1978<br />
and archaeological materials are <strong>in</strong>stalled.<br />
1982-1987<br />
The mosaic is removed aga<strong>in</strong> and renovated<br />
<strong>in</strong> the Laboratory of the Stones <strong>in</strong> Florence.<br />
1990-1992<br />
The Board for Cultural Heritage and Preservation<br />
makes other <strong>in</strong>vestigations on the<br />
‘thermal baths’. In 1992, the mosaic is back<br />
to <strong>Massaciuccoli</strong> and <strong>in</strong>stalled <strong>in</strong> the ex- elementary<br />
School.<br />
1993-1994<br />
G. Ciampoltr<strong>in</strong>i, thanks to a new <strong>in</strong>terpretation<br />
of the ‘thermal baths’, hypothesis of Villa<br />
of otiumand its contacts with the Venuleis.<br />
Besides, he documents its survival up to the<br />
late ancient period and its <strong>in</strong>habitation dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the Middle-Age.<br />
1998<br />
G. Ciampoltr<strong>in</strong>i exam<strong>in</strong>es aga<strong>in</strong> the ‘Villa of<br />
the mosaics’ and presents a new <strong>in</strong>terpretation<br />
of the same: a stop station (mansio)<br />
along the road traffic nearby the hill. dur<strong>in</strong>g<br />
the Roman period, it was the jo<strong>in</strong>ture of Pisa,<br />
Lucca and Luni.
