educational camp experiences available for your child. This guide will<br />

<strong>2012</strong> CRAVE FUN IN THE SUMMER SUN<br />

Emmett Scott Recreation Center will be<br />

<strong>of</strong>fering a <strong>Summer</strong> Day Camp for ages 6‐13 at<br />

the center Mon. June 11 through Aug. 3 from<br />

7:30am‐6:00pm. Campers will enjoy fun filled<br />

days with an educational curriculum, arts and<br />

crafts, swimming, sports activities, field trips<br />

and more. This 8 week camp costs $600 per<br />

child. Pre‐registration is required.<br />

Join us at Fewell Park Center for a fun filled, action packed summer. “DiscoveryQuest”<br />

Day Camp will begin Monday, June 4th and continue weekly until Friday, August 10 th .<br />

Enjoy wonderful new programs, with a different theme each week, as well as an<br />

expanded program <strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong>f‐site field trips. The camp will be under the guidance <strong>of</strong> well<br />

trained counselors and instructors.<br />

Each day’s activities will begin at 9:00am. Campers may arrive as early as 7:30am to<br />

take part in supervised free play activities. Daily snacks will be provided; campers<br />

should bring lunch. Scheduled programming will begin at 9:00am, and will end at<br />

4:00pm, but campers may remain until late pick up concludes at 6:00pm<br />

Fewell Park Center and “Discovery Quest” are operated by <strong>Rock</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> Parks,<br />

Recreation, & Tourism<br />

<strong>2012</strong> ROCK HILL TENNIS CENTER SUMMER CAMPS<br />

The <strong>Rock</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> Tennis Center <strong>of</strong>fers tennis camp for kids ages 5 to 14 and levels from complete<br />

beginner to intermediate. <strong>Summer</strong> camps combine the fun <strong>of</strong> learning and playing tennis with youth<br />

activities designed for each age group and ability level. The ultimate goal is to provide a fun tennis<br />

environment in which every camper can grow and develop, build sportsmanship and discover a<br />

lifetime love <strong>of</strong> the game. Kids will learn skills to play tennis in a game-type format. Classes are<br />

designed to follow the United States Tennis Association (USTA) QuickStart format. <strong>Camps</strong> are<br />

<strong>of</strong>fered on a weekly basis and kids may sign up for multiple camps at the time <strong>of</strong> registration.<br />

<strong>Camps</strong> for ages 5 - 14 are held Monday through Friday 8:30 am – noon. The Tennis Center <strong>of</strong>fers<br />

early drop-<strong>of</strong>f beginning at 8:00am. One-day camps and full day camps are available.<br />

<strong>Summer</strong> Craft Camp<br />

Craft Camp includes activities such as drawing, painting, clay, sculptures,<br />

printmaking, and origami. The class is limited to 20 students.<br />

Dates: June 11 – 15, <strong>2012</strong> (Session 1)<br />

July 9 – 13, <strong>2012</strong> (Session 2)<br />

<strong>2012</strong> CAMP ARC<br />

Camp Arc is a week‐long day camp predominately for children and adults<br />

with special needs. Sessions run throughout the summer. This is a<br />

mainstreamed camp where children with and without disabilities will<br />

enjoy a variety <strong>of</strong> activities. Sessions include: Children’s Camp, Children<br />

with Multiple Handicaps and Adult Camp. Registration is first‐come, first‐<br />

served. A special event and a t‐shirt are included in the cost.<br />

Dates: Sessions run throughout the summer, Mon. – Fri. Participants<br />

should call for a schedule. Participants are limited to one or two sessions<br />

per summer.<br />

Time: 9am – 2pm<br />

<strong>2012</strong> EXTREME ADVENTURE CAMPS<br />

Extreme Adventure <strong>Camps</strong> (now in their 15 th season!) <strong>of</strong>fer a variety <strong>of</strong> outdoor<br />

experiences for boys and girls ages 8 through 14. Most camps are co‐ed with one<br />

girls session. Activities take place at some <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Rock</strong> <strong>Hill</strong> parks with trips to<br />

regional trails, lakes, rivers and mountains! – Our courteous and well trained staff<br />

will provide all <strong>of</strong> the necessary equipment, instruction and encouragement to<br />

participants <strong>of</strong> all skill levels. Check specifics below and contact us with questions<br />

This action‐packed 3‐day camp is for kids with some outdoor experience who are<br />

looking for a challenge. Activities include outdoor rock climbing, kayaking on the<br />

Catawba River, and mountain biking. Cost: $130<br />

Extreme Kids II & III Ages: 8‐10 – Boys and Girls<br />

Session II ‐ June 18 th – 22 nd , 8:00‐5:00pm<br />

Session III ‐ August 6 th – 10 th, 8:00‐5:00pm<br />

Connect your child to nature through 5 days <strong>of</strong> adventure.<br />

Activities rang from kayaking and biking to educational<br />

lessons on watersheds, animal habitats, and more.<br />

Extreme Girls Ages: 9‐12 – Girls Only<br />

July 31st – August 2 nd , 8:00‐5:00pm<br />

This action‐packed, 3‐day, girls only camp is for girls<br />

with some outdoor experience who are looking for a challenge.<br />

Activities include outdoor rock climbing, kayaking, and mountain biking. Cost: $130<br />

Youth Kayak Camp Ages: 11‐14– Boys and Girls<br />

July 20 th , 8:00‐5:00pm<br />

This one‐day kayak camp will introduce beginning kayak skills, basic river hydrology,<br />

and personal risk management on moving water. We will kayak from the Wylie Dam in<br />

Fort Mill to River Park. Cost: $45<br />

Youth Mountain Bike Camp Ages: 11‐14– Boys and Girls<br />

August 3 rd , 8:00‐5:00pm<br />

This one‐day kayak camp will introduce beginning mountain bike skills including,<br />

balance, proper braking and shifting, and body position for beginner to intermediate<br />

trial riding. Cost: $45<br />

Nature Play Series<br />

Ages: 5 to 7 - $80.00<br />

The Nature Play Series is designed to spark your child’s imagination and wonder<br />

through nature-based activities and self-guided play experiences. Each day<br />

we’ll explore in our parks and spend time playing in nature. Program includes a<br />

daily snack and nature project.<br />
