Andrea Humphrey Schmidt (C’96) and her husband, Jonathan, welcomed a son, Thaddeus
Humphrey Schmidt, on Feb. 1, 2010. Andrea’s husband, a community activist and attorney,
passed away 24 days later after a courageous 18-month battle with a rare and aggressive
type of cancer. Andrea Schmidt says that although their time together as a family was brief
and often uncertain, “It was filled with tremendous joy.” She adds that “Jonathan’s love of
life lives on in Thaddeus, who inherited his father’s sweet temperament and huge smile.”
She plans to stay in the Philadelphia area where Jonathan’s extended family lives.

has been in the publishing
sector in both Manhattan
and Washington, D.C.
(with a brief hiatus in
Charlottesville to earn a
graduate degree at the
University of Virginia).
She and her husband,
Steve Horak, live in the
D.C. area. Jennifer is the
managing editor of the
book publishing program
at the National Science
Teachers Association.
Business: Christina Nystrom
Mantha and her
husband, Srikant,
announce the birth of their
son, Thomas August, on
March 11, 2009. Their
doctor, John Nunes(M’83),
chief of obstetric gynecology
and director of the
Maternal-Child Unit at
ValleyCare Medical Center
in Pleasanton, Calif.,
also delivered Thomas’ sister,
Ashley, in March 2007.

The couple now lives in
Washington, D.C.

Alumni Family Programming in
2009–10
Alumni families celebrated fall on campus at our
first Pumpkin Party on Copley Lawn, where children
painted pumpkins, jumped on the moon
bounce and found plenty of treats. In December,
more than 365 alumni and their families joined us
for Breakfast with Santa, which included pancakes,
holiday crafts and photos with Santa himself.
Reunions Beyond the Hilltop
Think reunions only take place every five years on
the Hilltop? Think again. Online features that
were added to the Reunion Weekend website provide
an opportunity for alumni to reconnect and
share their memories with fellow Hoyas, whether
through an online no-obligation book club, podcast
tours or discussion groups. The Georgetown
Class of 2013, for example, read The Secret Scripture
by Sebastian Barry and has plans to read novels
written by alumni and faculty in the future. With
podcast tours, you can explore how the campus
landscape has changed since you left Georgetown.
