CLYN BARRUS <strong>is</strong> a graduate of the Curt<strong>is</strong> Institute, the Vienna Academy,<br />

and the University ofMichigan where he earned h<strong>is</strong> doctorate in <strong>viola</strong>. He was<br />

principal of the Vienna Symphony and for thirtccn years occupied that same<br />

position in the Minnesota Orchestra. He has been heard frequently as asolo<strong>is</strong>t<br />

and recording art<strong>is</strong>t, and <strong>is</strong> now director of orchestras at BYU.<br />

BRIGHAM YOUNG UNIVERSITY<br />

DAVID DALTON studied at the Vicrma Academy, the Munich Hochschule,<br />

and took degrees at the Eastman School and Indiana University where he<br />

earned h<strong>is</strong> doctorate in <strong>viola</strong> under William Primrose. He collaborated with<br />

h<strong>is</strong> teacher in producing the Primrose memoirs Walk on the North Side and<br />

Playing the Viola. He served as president of the American Viola Society.<br />

The Primrose International Viola Archive, the largest repository of materials related to the <strong>viola</strong>, <strong>is</strong> housed in the BYU Library. BYU graduates find themselves<br />

in professional orcheslras and as teachers at institutes of higher learning. B.M., B.A., and M.M. degrees in performance-pedagogy are offered <strong>viola</strong> students.<br />

BYU <strong>is</strong> one of the best buys in college education.<br />
