Karen McTavish of Duluth, Minnesota, owned two other
longarm machines for four years before switching to
APQS. She’ll never go back.
“What a lovely thing it is to have the ability to run
decorative threads, use a chair if I choose, have the best
stitch regulator on the market and to produce quilts that
aren’t ‘wavy’ from hardcore stretching.
“Because of the smaller bobbin, I have the prettiest
stitches I’ve ever seen – with no loops on the back because
of the backlash effect. It’s a joy to quilt without having to
constantly check the backing for problems. The quality of
my quilting went way up. I know it’s the best machine.”
Karen has been featured on PBS’s “Quilt
Central” and HGTV’s “Simply Quilts” with
Alex Anderson. Her work has also appeared in
books, national magazines and journals. Her
first book, Quilting for Show, was published in
2002. More recently, she published Whitework
Quilting and Mastering the Art of McTavishing.
She specializes in using longarm techniques
that replicate traditional hand-quilted effects.
Her APQS machine lets her combine her two
passions – Wholecloth and Trapunto.
