2. Global projects:
After two years of SEEEM (www.seeem.org) we have now a more permanent and global platform: the
new IEA Implementing Agreement on Efficient Electrical End-Use Equipment 4E Electric Motor Systems
Annex (www.motorsystems.org). The work starts now with 7 participating countries in 6 tasks:

3. Legislation and regulation:
The view that only mandatory standards can move markets more rapidly has been shown in the USA,
Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Now the European Ecodesign Energy-using Products Directive
will produce Minimum Energy performance Standards in 2009 for motors, pumps and fans
(www.ecomotors.org).
4. More Efficient products:
Premium Efficiency motors IE3 are being sold in the market place with 60 Hz and 50 Hz, now available
in sizes from 0.75 kW to 375 kW. NEMA frame sizes and 60 Hz made this possible a while ago, European
frame sizes (EN 50347) and 50 Hz make it more difficult but possible.
Where do we go from here?
In the next two days we try to bring together some 120 motor producers and users, experts and administrators
from 20 countries around the globe to improve and share their knowledge on efficiency
technology and policy. This Global Motor Network should expand within 4E and contribute to harvest
the energy efficiency potential in this field.
The SEEEM project that has started the harmonization drive in 2006 will now become history. The 4E
Motor Systems program will take over in a more sustainable structure.
And: We will gather again at EEMODS’09 on 14-17 September 2009 in Nantes France to continue this
global drive for more efficient motor systems.
