nderling the importance of cruise ships to the local economy the Tourist Corporation <strong>Bonaire</strong> (TCB) gave a cruise ship service training course for 150 participants on<br />

U August <strong>10</strong>. Attending were partners in the cruise ship tourist industry. <strong>The</strong> course focused on the importance of the human role which is key to the success of a<br />

destination.<br />

Speaking were Tourism Deputy Anthony Nicolaas and TCB Director Ronella Tjin Asjoe-Croes.<br />

Workshops were held to develop “Excellent Service”and“Taxi Pride.” Participants received a “Seal of Quality” from the TCB, to go on their car, badge or store.<br />

C RUISE SHIP TRAINING COURSE<br />

O n July 15th , BONHATA recognised<br />

long time friend of <strong>Bonaire</strong>,<br />

George “Clam” Buckley, on the occasion<br />

of his <strong>10</strong>0 th visit to the island with<br />

the Golden Flamingo Award. George is<br />

the Coordinator for the Certificate in<br />

Environmental Management program<br />

and the Research Advisor to the related<br />

Master of Liberal Arts (ALM) program<br />

at the Harvard Extension School. He<br />

assisted in the campaign to get Klein<br />

<strong>Bonaire</strong> back in the hands of the <strong>Bonaire</strong>an<br />

people, performed extensive<br />

marine research in the waters and reefs<br />

of <strong>Bonaire</strong> as the Director of the Marine<br />

Ecology Project here and many<br />

other tasks of benefit to <strong>Bonaire</strong>. Additionally,<br />

George brings down groups of<br />

students three or four times a year to<br />

assist in carrying out research projects.<br />
