NO LONGER PRACTICING / OTHER DR. LISA PRICE, SEATTLE. Patienceinbee@reddit: Here is one categorically phenomenal physician who unfortunately left her practice to return to medical research. Dr. Price used to work at the now-defunct Verbena Clinic, which was the last known place in Seattle or the Puget Sound where I could access medical care as a trans woman requiring sliding scale due to low income. She was incredibly smart, wise, double-disciplined in traditional medicine and naturopathic medicine, openly queer (even if cis), and simply understood what I needed for not just my endocrine needs, but also identified a white blood cell anaemia I was not previously aware of. She did not hassle me for having been self-prescribed in the past, understanding the barriers I'd faced. She simply asked what I was on and then wrote a new prescription to continue things along. She did not reveal in my patient file that I had a transsexual body. Her approach for me in this sense was very much like how women's health clinics in the 1960s prescribed the pill under some rubric not related to birth control, so that if a woman's regular physician saw the patient file, they wouldn't use that against her (for moral reasons, if not general discriminatory actions). Dr. Price was the only care provider for whom, when it was my last visit ever with her, I cried — right in front of her (trying not to, but failing) — and thanked for the dignity she had showed which no other clinician had ever demonstrated before (or, well, since, though those since haven't been as bad as some I saw before her). She was my primary care physician at the time of my genital surgery and had a good grasp on what was going on and what to expect (she gave me the advance notice of what kind of fatigue I would expect during healing). tl;dr: A++++++++ GR8 DR.
