A New Green Technology Drying System<br />

One company has found a solution to<br />

competition from low wage paying countries<br />

realizing that cutting wages is not the<br />

answer. Green technology inventions are<br />

the answer.<br />

Can-Am Engineered Products, Inc.’s<br />

latest technology achievement is called the<br />

TurboAir drying system, for low cure<br />

waterborne and solvent based paints.<br />

It has been estimated that the US energy<br />

savings of natural gas and electricity<br />

usage could be reduced by $300 million<br />

per year in the automotive collision shop<br />

market in the US alone. Now multiply that<br />

by the wood industry, industrial, automotive<br />

OEM and military markets.<br />

The TurboAir ‘green technology system’<br />

is designed for drying low temperature<br />

waterborne or solvent-based<br />

coatings. This technology has been tested<br />

and confirmed by the PPG and Sherwin-<br />

Williams paint companies plus a few other<br />

coating manufacturers.<br />

The TurboAir drying system is a selfcontained<br />

mass air delivery system that<br />

supplies warm, dry air to your present<br />

spray booth without needing to use your<br />

air compressor or booth mechanicals.<br />

The turbine is powered by our custom<br />

manufactured UL and CSA certified 50 or<br />

60 hertz, multi-voltage, 3 phase, explosion<br />

proof, 7.5 horse power electric motor.<br />

The inside building air is pulled into a<br />

special air intake filter system, which then<br />

continues its passage though several<br />

expansion and drying stages until it exits<br />

at over 600 cfm and over 36,000 cfh, into<br />

a central piping configuration to our<br />

strategically placed air knives, which exits<br />

the conditioned air to the spray booth thus<br />

achieving a rapid curing atmosphere.<br />

This information assumes your<br />

spray booth meets all requirements for<br />

construction, ventilation and safety as<br />

required by nfpa 33 and other local laws.<br />

Since fresh air is used by our turbines to<br />

supply the drying air, it makes our system<br />

inherently safe. We in fact assist the ventilation<br />

system of the booth. In no case can<br />

we exceed the 200 degree F limit<br />

described in the nfpa 33 code. Since our<br />

turbine supplies air into the booth at the<br />

rate of 600 cfm (minimum) it also provides<br />

for the forced exhaust at the same<br />

rate. This rate equals 36,000 cfh. Since<br />

the nfpa 86 code requires 10,000 cfh for<br />

each gallon of solvent use per hour thus<br />

we have a very generous safety margin.<br />

Also, always adjust your exhaust damper<br />

slightly so as to exhaust even when the<br />

booth is turned off. ■<br />
