der, who are crossing the Drina. 28 But I want to assure
you that we are doing everything possible to disarm
responsibility ”for the wicked things the other side is
doing here and on the other side of the Drina.“ 29
The Serbian and Montenegrin media featured almost
daily reports on the military and police finding illegal
weapons cached by Muslims. But they failed to carry a
press statement released by the Montenegrin Ministry
of Internal Affairs on 24 criminal offenses committed in
the 1 January-15 August 1992 period: property blown
up, hand grenades thrown, and gunfire endangering
the public. The owners of the destroyed property were
”mainly Muslims with the exception of two cases involving
mixed marriages.“ 30
3.1. Radical rebellion
Events in Pljevlja peaked on 6 August 1992 when traffic
police stopped a white Mercedes which was being driven
by one Vuković. Finding that the driver had no
papers on the provenance of the vehicle apart from one
issued by the mayor of Čajniče saying that it was a gift
to Milika ”Čeko“ Dačević as a token of gratitude for his
assistance in the war, the police took Vuković into custody.
A closer look at the car brought out that its license
plates were fake. When Dačević came to the Police
Department the next morning demanding that the Mercedes
be returned to him, he was detained for an investigatory
interrogation in connection with the vehicle as
well as a number of charges pressed against him earlier.
