• Directed studies: a faculty member individually advises an <strong>Allievo</strong> on a mutually agreed topic.<br />

• Tutorials: a faculty member advises a small group of Allievi on a topic of mutual interest.<br />

• Seminar courses: the instructor selects a suitable number of seminars in the <strong>Collegio</strong>’s<br />

seminar series relevant for the Allievi’s training; the Allievi are then expected to attend<br />

these seminars, to meet the speakers, and to discuss the papers presented at the seminars<br />

with the instructor.<br />

For each course, the instructor distributes a syllabus detailing the topics to be covered, office<br />

hours and grading policy. Class attendance is compulsory. At the end of each course there is a<br />

written test, and the grade earned by the <strong>Allievo</strong> is reported in her/his academic records at the<br />

<strong>Collegio</strong> (both in thirtieth, according to the standard italian university grading system, and in<br />

letters; see the conversion table at the end of the section with grades’ explanation).<br />

subject to seating availability and class size limit, the director of studies can authorize<br />

students of other institutions to attend semester courses at the <strong>Collegio</strong>. The exchange<br />

students are expected to be honors students at their home institution.<br />

DEgrEE rEQUirEMENTS<br />

The Allievi must enroll either in a laurea triennale or in a laurea magistrale program at the<br />

university or at the Politecnico of Torino. The additional activities of Junior and senior Allievi<br />

at the <strong>Collegio</strong> last, respectively, for three and two years.<br />

upon enrollment, the director of studies nominates a mentor who supervises each <strong>Allievo</strong>’s<br />

studies at the <strong>Collegio</strong>. The mentor is a faculty member of the <strong>Collegio</strong>.<br />

At the beginning of each academic year, the <strong>Allievo</strong> prepares a study program for the given<br />

year in accordance with her/his mentor. such a program must comply with the specific rules<br />

set below and is then submitted, for approval, to the director of studies.<br />

if an <strong>Allievo</strong> fails an exam at the <strong>Collegio</strong>, the director of studies can, at her/his discretion, ask<br />

the <strong>Allievo</strong> to either quit the program or take the exam again during the following academic<br />

year.<br />

At the end of each academic year, an <strong>Allievo</strong> is expected to complete at least 75% of her/his<br />

required university coursework (measured in credits), with an overall grade average of at least<br />

27/30. otherwise, the director of studies can, at her/his discretion, ask the <strong>Allievo</strong> to quit the<br />

program.<br />

The <strong>Allievo</strong> who successfully completes her/his course requirements both at the university<br />

and at the <strong>Collegio</strong> with an overall average grade of at least 27/30 is admitted to the final<br />

examination.<br />

JUNiOr AlliEVi<br />

The program of studies of a Junior <strong>Allievo</strong> must include at least two courses per year, for<br />

an overall course load of at least 60 hours, to be chosen among the courses offered at the<br />

<strong>Collegio</strong>.<br />
