Captain Elliott Peterson members who
have served in one
of the branches
of the United States armed forces. The keynote
speaker for this year’s celebration was Captain
Elliott Peterson, representing the United States
Marine Corp. Peterson accepted his commission
to the U.S. Marine Corps in 2004 and was
deployed to Iraq in 2006 and 2007.
He became a selection officer in 2008 and is
enrolled in TU’s Master of Criminal Justice degree
program. Peterson remembered receiving a TU
sweatshirt and said he was impressed with the
graduate program. “I decided to go to school
here,” he said.
Peterson reflected on his overseas duty and
said Iraq is full of children who view Americans
as an armored version of Santa Claus. “I have so
many fond memories of the people in Iraq,” he
said. Peterson told a story about a time when a
bomb detonated under a Humvee and resulted
in death. The scene, he said, was terrible.
