Lady ’cats turning
corner with 2 wins
Something clicked. Some
corner is being turned. The
South Loup Lady Bobcats look
like a different team winning
two of the last three matches
last week.
The most recent came at
the expense of the SEM Lady
Mustangs in the midst of a sixgame
losing streak. South Loup
took them to five sets winning
22-25, 27-25, 19-25, 25-17,
15-4 last Thursday evening in
Callaway.
South Loup simply took
over in the last two sets and
dominated in the final stanza
going up 12-3 for cruising in
for the win on Sierra Monroe’s
10th kill of the night. It was a
long match going from 7:00 to
almost 9:30.
While SEM fields a tall, rangy
team all the way through the
rotation, the Mustangs could
not contain South Loup’s outside
hitting from Monroe and
Shayla Dockweiler who each
recorded 10 kills. Jenna Hoesel
added to the mayhem with 9 to
her credit.
The Bobcats moved their
feet, got back in defense and
communicated with each other
in a show of emergence not
seen in the short history of the
co-op.
“They figured it out,” said
Head coach Emily Hudson.
“The needed to talk and they
wanted to do that.”
She said it’s simple, really.
“They have the knowledge, they
have the skills, they just needed

at Arnold Triangular
ARNOLD — The Brady Lady
Eagles (8-2) remain one of the
dominant volleyball teams in the
region and showed it on Sept. 11
beat South Loup 25-15, 25-28 at
its triangular. It also downed 3-4
Medicine Valley 2-0.
But team records don’t mean
that much early when teams
are still sorting things out and
finding their groove.
South Loup began to find
its groove beating the Lady
Raiders in three 25-23, 23-25,
25-21 in its second game of the
evening and its first victory of
the season.
Lady Bobcat senior outside
hitter Sierra Monroe was simply
unstoppable delivering 32 successful
attacks and recording
15 kills on the night. Shayla
Dockweiler recorded six kills on
the other side and Jordan Rush
had 4 kills and 4 stuff blocks.
Middle blocker Alex Weinman
added 6 kills. Taylor Geiser
tallied 30 ace assists.
All told, South Loup had
nine stuff blocks, 10 ace serves
and 35 kills.
Head coach Emily Hudson
said the Raiders has a strong
outside hitter in Taylor Sandoe,
but did not think Med Valley
was clicking together well that
night.
Brady, of course, is Brady
and the Bobcat ladies were kept
from getting anything going.
Dockweiler and Monroe
each had three of the team’s 8
kills which finished with 65%
successful attacks. Jenna Hoesel
had the lone stuff block for
South Loup.

SEM featured a pretty fair
front line in Brianna James and
Miranda Pierce rotating in at
middle blocker while outside
hitter Shaylee Burr brought
power into the attack that
South Loup struggled to contain
at first. Where the problems
started for the Mustangs was
getting their passes and sets to
the hitters in position. A lot of
free balls ended up back over
the net for South Loup.
Six serving errors in set one
marred the South Loup effort
and they found themselves
behind 23-18 though SEM had
five service errors of their own.
South Loup rallied on a four-hit
and then sophomore Stephanie
Ellis came in to serve and ace to
make 24-21. SEM got called for
a lift for point 22 but then put
down a kill for set point.
South Loup found itself
down 5-2 in set two on two kills
and two ace serves from SEM
but began to rally to tie on kills
from Taylor Geiser and Jordan
Rush, topped off with an ace
serve from Monroe.
The Bobcats then went on a
6-1 run starting with a Weinman
stuff block and followed
up with two kills each from
Dockweiler on the right and
Weinman in the middle. SEM
struggled to contain outside
hitting all night long.
Still, the Mustangs rallied
to tie at 11 on a 5-0 run. From
there it was a battle back and
forth until South Loup led 24-
23. Hudson then tried to call a
time-out but didn’t have any
left. Point SEM to tie at 24. It
was a mistake that could have
been fatal but the Bobcats rallied.
SEM hurt itself with a service
error to make 26-25 and then
Monroe hit point 27 from the
outside for the set.
South Loup trailed 20-19
in set three from two failed
attacks, two overpasses, plus
an SEM stuff blocks put the
Mustangs on a 5-0 run for the
win.
It was all SEM had to offer
this night.
South Loup simply dominated
set four going up 9-1
and then holding off occasional
Mustangs runs. Rush attacked
for the kill for point 25 forcing
set five.
It was all South Loup after
that as SEM seemed to dissolve

got a tip kill setting her up to
serve three aces to go up 4-1.
The Bobcats went up 11-2
and then loped to the finish as
SEM committed four errors
including a serve into the net
for point 14 South Loup and
Monroe hit the game winner.
Hudson said she told the
team it needed to come out
fast and it did that. “I’m just
so proud of you,” she told the
huddled team following the
final volley.
Geiser finished with 37 set
assists and 7 aces to go with 4
