Safety Footwear Markings
Safety footwear is an essential requirement within many
work environments, and as such, it is subject to rigorous
testing procedures, some of which are outlined below.
EN ISO 20345 S1P
Applies to footwear made from leather or other materials
(not including all-rubber/polymeric designs). It must also
feature the following:

a closed seat region with energy absorbing properties
antistatic properties
a penetration resistant and oil resistant outsole
toe cap protection tested against a 200 J impact
EN ISO 20345 S4
Applies to footwear made from all-rubber/all-polymeric
materials. In addition to the following:

an energy absorbing heel
antistatic properties
an oil resistant outsole
toe cap protection tested against a 200 J impact

EN ISO 23045 S5
An item of footwear carrying this marking must be made
from all-rubber or all-polymeric materials and must
demonstrate the following features:
•

an energy absorbing heel
antistatic properties
a penetration resistant and oil resistant outsole
toe cap protection tested against a 200 J impact
cleated outsole
EN ISO 20345 SB
Applies to footwear featuring toe cap protection capable
of withstanding a 200 J impact in addition to an oil
resistant outsole.
