Bob Northrop
? - June 2012
Bob was the beloved leader of our MSO
Dancesport team. He served as the
dancesport event coordinator and was in
charge of the website, dance software, and
music for the participants. Bob was also
very involved in growing the sport of
Pickleball as a USAPA Ambassador. He
created state-of-the-art
tournament software to
run Pickleball
tournaments in the
Kalamazoo Area. Bob had
a love for life, Pickleball,
dance, and music. He did
a great job running the
dancesport competition
for Michigan Senior
Olympics. It was a pleasure working with
him. Bob will truly be missed by all.
specialists, sports advisors, fund-raisers, office
assistance, web design and more. MSO could not
survive without the generosity of all the people who
volunteer throughout the year. MSO is also looking
for scorekeepers, timers, etc., for the Winter Games
Festival to be held February 1-6, 2013
IN MEMORIAL
Sam Cupp
8/26/47 - 6/21/12
Sam was instrumental in the formation of the
Michigan Sting Hockey Club. The organization has
fielded teams for most major national
tournaments. They achieved the unthinkable and
unmatched sweep of Gold Medals (four Divisions
50 and 60 Recreational and Elite) of the National
Senior Olympics in Providence, R.I. This significant
achievement came on the heels of the second
consecutive World Cup win in April of 2008. In
2009, the club won the
prestigious USA National
Hockey Championships in both
the 50 and 60 divisions. That
was followed by a repeat sweep
of the Gold in October at the
National Senior Olympics in
Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The
"Sting" was a heart passion for
Sam that provided much fun
and pleasure in watching it develop and continue
to grow.
National Senior Games
Qualifying
To qualify for the National Senior Games, to be
held in Cleveland, Ohio, in 2013, you must participate in
a state game. The National Senior Games Association
(NSGA) determines the qualifying sites and rules for
every sport. You can find the rules for the sport on the
NSGA web site www.nsga.com. Each state’s qualifying
game must follow the rules set by NSGA. The state
games must send to NSGA all eligible qualifiers from
their games as stated by NSGA (Medal, Time, Distance
etc.)
The NSGA is the only organization that can
change the rules of your sport. If you are an athlete that
would like to see changes made, I would suggest sending
them to NSGA, 8919 World Ministry Ave, Baton Rouge,
LA 70810 and then send us a copy. I am on the National
Board and will always try to help make changes or add
sports if possible. The procedure for requesting a sport
and/or event be added to the National Games may be
found in the 2009 National Senior Games Rule Book,
Rule Q (page 10). Michigan has been instrumental in
adding team sports; volleyball was the only team sport the
first year of the games.
