We operate out of two locations at Tweed Heads (6 chairs) and Burleigh Waters (3 chairs) and are supported by an enthusiastic auxiliary team, including four dental hygienists. NZAO TRANSFER FORMULA The transfer formula was passed at the 1998 NZAO AGM and has been published in many newsletters since it has been updated here with 2009 amounts. At the 1998 Annual General meeting, members of the New Zealand Association of Orthodontists passed the following formula as an appropriate method of calculation of the proportion of fee to charge transfers away from your practice during active treatment. Appliance placement 27% of treatment fee Active treatment 60% of treatment fee per month divided by a realistic estimation of the treatment time in months Appliance removal and retainers 13% of treatment fee As an example: Total treatment fee $6000. Patient is transferring after 14 months of treatment and the treatment is expected to take 24 months. Fee for treatment undertaken during the 14 months would be: Appliance placement 27% of $6000 $1620 Active treatment 60% of $6000 x14 divided by 24 $2100 Total owing at transfer $3720 The Fair Trading Act disallows the existence of a national fee scale. Therefore, the receiving orthodontist is not constrained by the original quote and the patient must renegotiate fees for the completion of treatment. NZAO Newsletter Volume 23 Number 1, March 2009
