In fact, even our legacy mainframe applications can be considered components -- they were just not very easy to compose with other components, as the ugly solutions of screen-scrapers and terminal emulators demonstrate. In particular, medium to large-scale components can constitute entire business functions. These components tend to be somewhat more static in their configuration and interconnection with other components, and each such component will be built from the equivalent of several OOP “classes”. These components will themselves implement multiple interfaces.
