For two years she worked as an event volunteer for Raise Home Support‘s annual fundraising gala, and has been on board with Community Support Connections‘ Symphony of Love ever since the agency joined forces with the three other organisations that now make up CSC. After teaching in the Early Childhood Education program at Conestoga College for 36 years, Titia let her volunteering responsibilities expand upon her retirement. A Warm Welcome... ... to Krista Lavender, Andrea Lebel, Lisa Armstrong and Deb Underwood who joined our staff in November! Krista will be one of our Volunteer Coordinators during Michelle Hughe‘s parental leave (congratulations Michelle!). Andrea is our new Crisis Worker, replacing Maria Sherwood who has joined the IGSW Team at our Waterloo Office. Lisa is providing research and evaluation support to the leadership team and Board of Directors and Deb is providing support to our Meals on Wheels team in Kitchener. We‘re also pleased to announce that Agnes Arthur, our Cambridge Program Assistant, has taken a new role with the organization as our Receptionist—so it will be her friendly voice you hear when you call. Agnes‘ presence will enable Marie and Emilie to respond in more depth to our transportation and Meals on Wheels clients when they call. Hanadi Fourani, our Meals Assistant in Cambridge wiill be combining her responsibilities with those of Program Assistant—so we‘ll be seeing more of her cheery smile at the Cambridge site! Beth Attwood will be increasing her time at Community Dining as our new Community Dining Assistant. “Enabling people to live at home with independence and dignity” ―I like this because it gets me doing something different from early childhood education. I love the people, I really enjoy the gala - it just took off from there.‖ One of Titia‘s main roles is chairing the silent auction committee for the Symphony of Love. The Symphony of Love features dinner by candlelight, dancing to the catchy tunes of the Toronto All-Star Big Band, and the silent auction which features over 100 items. Titia leads the team in organising the collection and wrapping of each and every one. ―It feels a little like Christmas all of the time when you‘re getting these donations and packaging them all up,‖ said Titia. ―It‘s just fun to do. Enjoy an elegant evening of gourmet fare, fine wine and music second to none. The world renowned Toronto All Star Big Band is once again returning to delight dancers with the spirit, style and sound of the 1930s and 40s—that golden age of big bands. Community Support Connections - Meals on Wheels and More is pleased to announce that the Phoenix Cultural Centre of Waterloo-Wellington, who brings the internationally acclaimed Shen Yun Performing Arts experience to Waterloo Region every year, will be donating 10% of every ticket purchased to CSC when customers use the promo code ―CSCMOW”. Shen Yun Performing Arts will be featured at The Centre in the Square from January 1-4, 2011. Tickets can be purchased at the box office and online at www.phoenixculturalcentre.org or www.centresquare.com/january.html. Only orders quoting the code ―CSCMOW‖ will have proceeds donated to Community Support Connections- Meals on Wheels and More. Souper Success Over 400 people attended our inaugural Souper Sampler and helped to raise almost $8,000 to support Meals on Wheels! Celebrity judges Gayle O‘Brien from Dave FM, Andrew Coppolino, host of The Food Show on 570 News, and Cambridge Mayor Doug Craig commended all participants – noting it was difficult to choose ‗just one‘, but when pressed to do so, they named The Bruce Restaurant and Lounge‘s Butternut Squash Soup the ‗Best Soup‘. Honourable mentions were also awarded to Daniel‘s Cheese and Deli for their delicious red lentil soup, and Select Service Caterers for their smoked corn chowder. ‖People‘s Choice‖ went to the turtle cheesecake served by KitchenWorks, who provides meals for Meals on Wheels clients in Cambridge. Thank you to Gerdau Ameristeel, Gore Mutual Insurance Company, and Cowan Insurance for your sponsorship, our tremendous volunteer team - including the WinterHawks, our celebrity judges, and everyone who helped make our first Souper Sampler such a phenomenal success. “Enabling people to live at home with independence and dignity” Income Tax Clinics Page 3 Community Support Connections— Meals on Wheels and More is pleased to announce that once again, our dedicated volunteers are offering free income tax assistance to seniors whose income is under $25,000 for singles and $30,000 for couples. Clinics will be offered on Wednesdays from March 2, 2011 through April 27th. If interested, please call Emilie at 519-772-8787 x 202 to make an appointment.
