High School Students
Inducted into the NHS and NTHS
By Charlene Lovett, Member,
Claremont School Board
Last Monday, the administration at Stevens
High School and the Sugar River Valley
Regional Technical Center hosted a
ceremony and dinner in honor of students
inducted into the National Honor Society
(NHS) and the
National Technical
Honor
Society
(NTHS).
These high
school students
had met
the academic,
service, leadership
and character requirements necessary
for membership. For all who attended
the event, it was an opportunity to witness
these students" achievements and talents.
Becoming a member of either the NHS or
NTHS is no easy task. Students, sophomore
to senior, must have at least a 3.0
grade point average, actively serve in the
community, hold leadership positions within
the student body, and exemplify good character.
The absence of any one of these
components disqualifies the student from
membership.
Students following the more traditional
academic path are eligible for NHS membership,
while students preferring the technical
career path are eligible for NTHS
membership. In some cases, students pursue
both paths. Described as “America"s
highest award for excellence in career and
technical education,” NTHS is committed to
the belief that “excellence in America"s workforce
begins with excellence in workforce
education.” Given the number of SRVRTC
students inducted into NTHS, there is no
doubt that our technical center upholds this
philosophy.
One of the technical careers offered at the
SRVRTC is the culinary arts program. Students
of this program prepared the dinner
that followed the ceremony. The full course
meal, graciously served by SHS and
SRVRTC staff, was an opportunity to experience,
first-hand, the culinary abilities of
these students.
Please join us as we congratulate this
year"s inductees and continuing members of
the NHS and NTHS:
