Unleash your inner gondolier in Venice
Alongside the canals and maybe Giacomo Casanova,
the gondolas, along with their colourful oarsmen,
are the iconic symbols of Venice. Although you
may not match Casanova in the art of romance,
you can attempt the next best thing by learning
to be Venice’s other most romantic figure – the
gondolier. However, first you may want to brush
up on your opera singing or check that you look
good in stripes before trying to look elegant while
perched precariously on the back of a boat wielding
a 15-metre long oar. If the short introductory course
inspires you to become a full-time gondolier, then
you will have to join a guild and be tested on your
knowledge of Venetian history and landmarks,
foreign language skills and practical skills in
