CALL TO ORDER ANDERSON UNION HIGH SCHOOL DISTRICT 1469 Ferry Street ▪ Anderson, CA 96007 (530) 378-0568 ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING, BOARD OF TRUSTEES Tuesday, December 18, 2012 MINUTES A regular meeting of the Governing Board of the Anderson Union High School District was called to order by Mr. Joe Gibson at 6:32 pm. on Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at the Anderson Union High School District Office. Present for Closed Session were: Members of the Board Mr. Ivar Amen Mr. Ron Brown Mr. Joe Gibson Mr. Butch Schaefer Mr. Karl Stemmler APPROVAL OF AGENDA Administration Mr. Tim Azevedo AUHSD Staff Mrs. Missi Bullington Mr. Brown moved, seconded by Mr. Amen to approve the agenda for the regular meeting for December 18, 2012. The motion carried unanimously. CLOSED SESSION The Board went into closed session at 6:01 pm. Mrs. Bullington was excused. REGULAR MEETING The Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees was called to order at 7:00 pm. The flag salute was led by Tim Azevedo. Mr. Azevedo administered the Oath of Office to newly elected Board Trustees Butch Schaefer and Karl Stemmler. In addition to those in closed session, the following were present: Administration Mr. Tony Baldwin Mrs. Donell Evans Mrs. Rebecca Evers Mr. Emmett Koerperich Mr. Brandt Shriner Mrs. Marrianne Williams REPORTS AUHSD Staff Mrs. Nancy Dutton Ms. Katy Teixeira Others Miranda Edwards Andrea Haden Dani Hayward Maghan Hunt Jon Isom Paige Pearson Betsy Reedy Bill Schaefer Lola Schaefer In Closed Session, the board unanimously approved the Superintendent’s recommendation for student discipline in cases #CL121306, #WG121304, and #SN121305. The Board voted unanimously to approve the litigation settlement in student case #JJ111215. Student Representatives Miranda Edwards (AUHS), Paige Pearson (ANTHS), and Dani Hayward (WVHS) reported on school activities, athletics, and academics. Jon Isom of Isom Advisors addressed the board regarding the bonding process. He explained that the district is required to have a bond oversight committee to oversee expenses related to the bond. AUHSD Regular Board Meeting Minutes Tuesday, December 18, 2012 will not include directing or prioritizing projects. The committee will meet and report to the public at least once a year. Mr. Isom explained the make-up of the committee and that the board will need to adopt a resolution in January which will start the committee selection process. He also explained the process of pricing and selling the bonds to investors. Marrianne Williams provided a presentation to the board regarding dual enrollment. She explained that students take college courses on the high school campus and earn credit for both. There is no cost to the student. She said this creates a college-going culture and is a “win-win” for the students. She clarified that AUHSD teachers who teach these classes are not paid more for dual enrollment courses, but are required to have a Master’s degree in the subject area in which they are teaching. HEARING OF PERSONS DESIRING TO ADDRESS THE BOARD No one requested to address the board. ORGANIZATIONAL ITEMS 7.1 Mr. Brown moved that the selection of officers for the Anderson Union High School District Board of Trustees for 2013 continue in the usual rotation. The motion carried unanimously. Therefore, Mr. Brown was selected as President of the Board, and Mr. Amen was selected as Clerk of the Board. Mr. Gibson handed Mr. Brown the gavel and Mr. Brown took over as chairman of the meeting. 7.2 Mr. Schaefer moved, seconded by Mr. Stemmler to adopt the resolution establishing the time, date, and place of regular monthly meetings of the Anderson Union High School District Board of Trustees. The motion carried unanimously. ACTION ON CONSENT ITEMS Mr. Stemmler asked to have BP 4312.1 – Contracts (Item #8.2) removed from the Consent Agenda. Mr. Schaefer moved, seconded by Mr. Amen to approve the following: 8.1 The minutes for the Regular Board Meeting, November 13, 2012 8.2 The following Board Policies and Administrative Regulation: AR 6146.2 – Certificate of Proficiency/High School Equivalency, BP 6178 – Career Technical Education, BP 7110 – Facilities Master Plan, and BB 9321 – Closed Session Purposes and Agendas 8.3 The deletion of the following Board Policy and Exhibit: E 6142.1 – Family Life Sex Education and BP 6161 – Equipment, Books, and Materials 8.4 The Human Resources Report: CERTIFICATED ASSIGNMENT: Carol Germano, District Department Chair; CLASSIFIED RESIGNATION: Toni Hillyard, Clerk/Typist/Paraprofessional at WVHS, effective November 16, 2012; CLASSIFIED UNPAID LEAVE OF ABSENCE: Dan Robinette, Custodian at WVHS, effective November 3 – December 31, 2012, CLASSIFIED RETIREMENT: Dan Robinette, Custodian at WVHS, effective January 1, 2013, CLASSIFIED NEW HIRE: Leah McElveen, Food Service Assistant at WVHS; CLASSIFIED NEW ASSIGNMENT: Denise McMahon, Clerk/Typist /Paraprofessional at WVHS, replacing Toni Hillyard; COACHING RESIGNATION: John Karpinski, Golf Coach at AUHS; COACHING NEW HIRES: Jim Mays, Freshman Girls Basketball at AUHS; Susan Romero, Girls Soccer at AUHS; Jacob Stout, Assistant Wrestling at AUHS; COACHING VOLUNTEERS: Scott Edwards, Boys Varsity Basketball at AUHS; Robert Littell, Boys Soccer at WVHS; Larry Melton, Boys Basketball at AUHS; Ken McNeely, Boys Soccer at WVHS; Chris Traetz, Boys Baseball at WVHS; Rachel Wilson, JV Girls Basketball at AUHS 8.5 The following field trips contingent on the availability of substitutes and the completion of transportation paperwork: Group Depart Return Destination City, St Purpose WVHS Girls Basketball Friday, December 21, 2012 Saturday, December 22, 2012 The White Residence Corning, CA Team Retreat AUHSD Board Meeting - January 15, 2013 Page 3 2
