Letter from the
PRESIDENT
Dear Alumni and Friends,
Whether I am on the road meeting alumni or engaging with the DePaul community closer
to home, I hear many stories of success. Each one reaffirms the character of DePaul University
and the unique place we hold in higher education.
DePaul has always held a special place in our local community. The diversity of our student
body has earned us recognition by The Princeton Review as No. 1 in the nation in the
“Diverse Student Population” category. More than a third of our undergraduates are minority
(35 percent) and over one-half are women (56.6 percent). We are proud to be among the
top 100 universities in the nation for conferring degrees on students of color. Our diversity
enriches the learning environment of our classrooms.
Locally, through the Professional Development Schools Network, an innovative teachertraining
partnership established by DePaul’s School of Education, we are helping to create
communities of teachers that work together to improve how education is delivered. Our
entrepreneurship program, which has just celebrated its 25th anniversary, has recently been
named within the top ten entrepreneurship programs in the country.
Globally, our ability to provide higher education in emerging economies has extended our
influence overseas. In addition to offering our Chicago students study abroad opportunities
in 25 countries, we have created multiple overseas programs throughout the world.
International students in Bahrain, the Czech Republic, Jordan, Poland, Taiwan and Thailand
are able to earn DePaul degrees in their home countries. Just this fall our newest degree
program abroad, at Tangaza University in Nairobi, began offering educational opportunities
for leadership and management roles in religious communities and social service
organizations.
We partner with the world, the city, and each other to create a vast learning experience that
results in prepared students who are prepared civic leaders as well, and we count on your
partnership to enable us to continue to offer the kind of learning experience that ultimately
enhances the world in which we live.
