<strong>Parentectomy</strong> <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>Crossfire</strong> 255<br />

The feel<strong>in</strong>g of security and balance, <strong>in</strong>timacy, and childhood feel<strong>in</strong>g of trust<br />

is forever gone.<br />

The alienat<strong>in</strong>g parent so often denigrates <strong>the</strong> target parent with outright<br />

‘lies, and mislead<strong>in</strong>g’ and exaggerated statements. These <strong>in</strong>dividuals may<br />

even go so far as to withhold from <strong>the</strong> target parent <strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>the</strong>ir child<br />

was <strong>in</strong>volved <strong>in</strong> an <strong>in</strong>jurious accident or even tell <strong>the</strong> child(ren) <strong>the</strong> o<strong>the</strong>r parent<br />

is dead. These alienat<strong>in</strong>g parents frequently tell <strong>the</strong> child(ren) that <strong>the</strong> target<br />

parent no longer loves <strong>the</strong>m. They will bra<strong>in</strong>wash a child conv<strong>in</strong>c<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong>m<br />

that abuse occurred, when <strong>the</strong>re was none. Treat<strong>in</strong>g a child, who was never<br />

abused, as if <strong>the</strong>y were, only makes matters worse and fur<strong>the</strong>r assists <strong>in</strong> harm<strong>in</strong>g<br />

and alienat<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> target parent and <strong>the</strong> child. Over time, <strong>the</strong> destruction is<br />

frequently irreparable. An alienator will cont<strong>in</strong>ue us<strong>in</strong>g deceptive methods to<br />

o<strong>the</strong>r third parties surround<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> child(ren) for his or her personal agenda.<br />

Many of <strong>the</strong>se children f<strong>in</strong>d <strong>the</strong>mselves experienc<strong>in</strong>g turmoil, disruption,<br />

anger, fear, and resentment dur<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> disputes of <strong>the</strong>ir estranged parents.<br />

Some feel embarrassed to speak about <strong>the</strong>ir own will<strong>in</strong>g participation <strong>the</strong>y<br />

undertook which is a byproduct of parental alienation. They are <strong>in</strong> a conflict<br />

of loyalty between <strong>the</strong>ir parents where <strong>the</strong>re are no w<strong>in</strong>ners.<br />

The alienation of everyone surround<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> child, <strong>in</strong>clud<strong>in</strong>g schools and<br />

friends is noth<strong>in</strong>g new. The biggest sadness is not how <strong>the</strong> alienator lives<br />

daily <strong>in</strong> denial regard<strong>in</strong>g <strong>the</strong> hideous path <strong>the</strong>y pursue to hurt <strong>the</strong>ir former<br />

mate, but <strong>the</strong> fact that <strong>the</strong>y are <strong>in</strong>ept to see <strong>the</strong> truly heart-wrench<strong>in</strong>g damage<br />

<strong>the</strong>y do to <strong>the</strong> child(ren), who become yet aga<strong>in</strong>, <strong>the</strong> victim of ano<strong>the</strong>r war.<br />

Perpetrators of this type of denigration often <strong>in</strong>clude <strong>the</strong> alienator’s new<br />

spouse or extended family, who cunn<strong>in</strong>gly and joyfully contribute to h<strong>in</strong>der<strong>in</strong>g<br />

all forms of communication i.e., return<strong>in</strong>g mail, confiscat<strong>in</strong>g letters,<br />

turn<strong>in</strong>g off message and fax mach<strong>in</strong>es, or hav<strong>in</strong>g an unlisted telephone number.<br />

Additionally, h<strong>in</strong>drance is also <strong>in</strong>struct<strong>in</strong>g a child what to say, this can<br />

<strong>in</strong>clude deliberate actions of discouragement, subtly or overtly, filled with<br />

‘excuses not to encourage, acknowledge, or rem<strong>in</strong>d’ <strong>the</strong> child about birthdays<br />

and holidays with <strong>the</strong> target parent, and frequently expos<strong>in</strong>g a selected<br />

and biased version of legal documents to <strong>the</strong> child. These personalities will<br />

do everyth<strong>in</strong>g <strong>in</strong> <strong>the</strong>ir power not to re<strong>in</strong>tegrate <strong>the</strong> target parent and erase<br />

<strong>the</strong>m from <strong>the</strong> child’s m<strong>in</strong>d. Some go so far as to listen <strong>in</strong> on private telephone<br />

calls, come to court to testify with fictitious allegations that <strong>the</strong> target<br />

parent “<strong>in</strong>tends” to harm <strong>the</strong> child, and constantly make threats to <strong>the</strong> target<br />

parent to have <strong>the</strong> police, even if <strong>the</strong>y show for a child’s graduation or to<br />

<strong>the</strong> family home. Withhold<strong>in</strong>g of records about a child or <strong>in</strong>formation about<br />

caregivers and friends of <strong>the</strong> child to raise legal costs is not uncommon.<br />
