ROOM NOT OPEN FOR SUMMER FREE USE Lockers are given out in the Athletic Office (P-400) at no cost to the students on a first come first serve basis. Personal items are not permitted in the free time areas. Open lockers are available at the racquetball court level, outside the weight room, and on the pool deck should you choose to bring your own lock. Personal locks may not be left on lockers overnight. Racquets and racquetballs are available for student use. It is suggested that safety goggles be worn for your protection. CCAC students, faculty, administrators and staff with current ID cards and appropriate clothing are permitted to use the free time areas. No guests are permitted. Black-bottomed shoes are not permitted on gym floor. Please notify security at X2662 in case of an accident or injury
ALLEGHENY VIEW 7 SUMMER-1 2011 CORNER PTK By DAYVANNA SCHREINER View Writer and PTK President Annual Convention Consisting of 2 million members and 1,200 chapters located in all 50 of the United States, U.S. territories, British Virgin Islands, Canada, Germany, Marshall Islands, Micronesia, United Arab Emirates and Palau. All were found at the annual convention held in Seattle, Washington this year. The Alpha Mu Theta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa has been on the rise for two years in a row. They are a chapter who has fellowshipped together, stood by each other in challenging times becoming a family they can count on. In April they went to Seattle, Washington for the International Convention. This convention is a place where 4,000 Phi Theta Kappans get together to celebrate their past year, learn more leadership, growth and development. The last day together is a celebration of awards. There are several award categories that Alpha Mu Theta entered. Hallmark Awards are the Society’s competitive awards recognizing outstanding Honors in Action by individuals, chapters and regions. Winners of this year’s Hallmark Awards were recognized during the Annual Convention. They won 3 awards at International level and the region won two. 1. Distinguished Honors In Action Award Out of 1,200 chapters only 50 chapters won this category. 2. Distinguished Issue Award The Distinguished Issue Awards recognize chapters’ outstanding implementation of Honors in Action Projects based on a particular issue of the current Honors Study Topic. Distinguished Chapter Award The Distinguished Chapter Awards recognize chapter’s chapter submitting entries for both the Honors in Action Project and College Project Award. Selection of the Distinguished Chapters will be based solely on the written entries for these Hallmark Awards. The scores in each of the two Hallmark categories mentioned above will be averaged to determine a chapter’s overall ranking. Congratulations to our Alpha Mu Theta team for all of their hard work and dedication in representing Community College of Allegheny County. 2010-2011 Officer Team I wanted to take this time to show my appreciation to the many members and officers who are graduating this year or who are transferring. Our team would not be the winning team without all of your support and dedication to your personal excellence. Joy LeViere, Vice President of Public Relations and Secretary. She started out as a member and loved service so much that she wanted more out of Phi Theta Kappa. She ran for office while still involved in her Disney By CRAIG BETHEL View Writer CAMPUS NEWS: The Sixth concert of the First Thursday’s at Calvary Church was very exciting because it featured La’Keeta Pittman, Soprano singer/music student and Charles R. Wilson, pianist/composer/professor of CCAC’s music department. Together they performed for La’Keeta’s final featured solo concert performance as a graduating senior of the Community College of Allegheny County music. I was present, not only as a photographer of the event for the View, but to engage in one of the premier up and coming soprano’s that Pittsburgh music lineage has to offer. We were blessed with wonderful pieces such as: “ Alleluja” from the Motet Exsultate, jubilate by W.A. Mozart, “An internship in Florida. She took several leads in her office leadership. Joy’s dedication to our first ever documentary for a Hallmark Award is the one we think of most. Joy’s heart, smiling face, and motivation are something else we think of. She is graduating this year and won the All Pennsylvania where she will be able to continue on for her degree at a 4 year institution all paid for. We will miss our Joy to the world and I know she will return one day to bring the happy back. Linh England, Vice President of Service. She started out as a member and caught the Alpha Mu Theta “fever”. Before her position she took the lead of Picnic Committee. Linh, a special person and friend to all, is a person who is dedicated to her studies. She was a student at CCAC as well as IUP. She is ready to move on. Linh has traveled heavily around the world. We wish her the best and hope when I ever need a lawyer I can call upon her excellence. As for the rest of the officer team, they are continuing on with more greatness in Alpha Mu Theta and CCAC. Lydia Molby, served as Vice President of Scholarship will take over the reins of Chapter President. I know she will make a great chapter leader with her observational skills. Kelly Guckert, served as Vice President of Service for half a term and Vice President of Fellowship, she will now take over as Vice President of Scholarship. I know she will be able to help carry on our 5 star goals and compete at Regional and International levels. Bryan Ceberio, Vice President of Leadership, will move on representing students in a BILL he is trying to get to congress. He is someone to watch out for. Dayvanna Schreiner, Vice President of Fellowship and current Chapter President, decided to move up the ladder to Regions. I will serve our chapter as well as the 28 other chapters in Pennsylvania. Music Department Update Photo/Craig Bethel Charles Wilson and La’Keeta Pittman. die Musik”, and “ Frohlingsglaube” ( sung in German) by Franz Schubert, and Negro Spirituals “His Name So Sweet” and “Witness” by Hall Johnson. “My favorite songs to sing are “An Die Musik” and “Witness” quoted Ms. Pittman in an afternoon interview. With her infectious smile she mentioned to me that “This was the most challenging project of my music career”. Being a music major myself, I witnessed this diligent young lady work daily on the music for this concert with the passion of a true lover of music. I must say that she worked for every single applause she received. Wonderful work La’Keeta. Mr. Charles R. Wilson also worked very hard on assisting Ms. Pittman with the selection of some of her music and practicing with her many hours of many days. We saw the re- sults of this dedicated work ethic when La’Keeta came back from her break for the last set. We saw a more relaxed and more confident singer which was evident in her hand gestures and emphatic texture/tone of her verses. The crowd reacted so positively with her that the spirit elevated to a higher level in the church. During our interview that afternoon, one of the most touching statements made was: “I think of Mr. Wilson not only as a mentor, but a Father like figure.” This is exemplified by the many caring and father like experiences Mr. Wilson has shown to her over the past semesters in the music department. La’Keeta is currently working on forwarding her music education at a local college for Music Education. We all love you and wish you the best in your future endeavors.
