Tigers top Ducks

Three Tigers rushed for over 100 yards while the 

defense allowed only 80 total yards as Beardstown overwhelmed 

the Ducks for a 35-0 shutout victory Friday in 

Havana. Brady Spears ran for 164 yards (on just 10 carries) 

and two touchdowns, including a 95-yard TD run midway 

through the second quarter. Wes Carlock ran for 129 yards 

and a touchdown. Dylan Patterson rushed for 101 yards 

(on just six carries) and a touchdown. Greg Carnes had a 

35-yard TD scamper as well for the Tigers. 

Beardstown improved to 3-1. 

SANGAMON VALLEY 18, NEW BERLIN 14 

Two touchdowns in the final six minutes gave the 

Storm a win over New Berlin Friday night. 

Sangamon Valley opened the scoring in the second 

quarter on a 22-yard pass with 7:08 left and failed on a twopoint 

conversion run. New Berlin answered with a 5-yard 

run by Scottie Thoele with 3:21 left before halftime, and 

Tanner Knox’s extra-point kick gave the Pretzels a 7-6 lead. 

New Berlin added another TD in the fourth quarter, when 

Thoele connected with Michael Lehman on a 29-yard pass 

play with 8:54 left in the game to make it 14-6. But Sangamon 

Valley scored on a 36-yard run with 5:16 left, then 

scored on a 39-yard pass play at the 1:45 mark to win the 

game. 

Thoele completed 5-of-18 passes for 122 yards. He 

threw two interceptions. Sangamon Valley fi nished with a 

288-162 advantage in rushing yardage. Tanner Shafer led 

New Berlin with 90 yards rushing on 15 carries. Lehman 

caught three passes for 83 yards. New Berlin fell to 1-3 

overall and 0-3 in the Sangamo Conference. 

AUBURN 36, PORTA 0 

Auburn rolled up 343 yards of offense and held PORTA 

to just 54 in a big win Friday night. 

Auburn broke on top in the fi rst quarter on a 39-yard 

pass play, then added two points on a safety to make it 9-0. 

The Trojans scored three more times in the second quarter. 

Austin Muench caught TD passes of 65 and 33 yards, 

and ran 20 yards for the other score. 

Alec Sutton led PORTA in rushing with 54 yards on 12 

carries. Quarterback Nate Wenda completed 2-of-18 passes 

for 29 yards and two interceptions. 

ELMWOOD-BRIMFIELD 54, RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 6 

Rushville gave up 27 unanswered points to start the 

game and fell to Elmwood-Brimfi eld Friday. 

The Rockets’ only touchdown came in the second quarter 

on a 39-yard strike from Jackson Canter to Ben 

Weishaar. Weishaar fi nished the game with two catches 

for 54 yards. Austin Onion rushed for 57 yards on 21 carries 

for the Rockets. Rushville fell to 1-3 on the season.
