Plutonium Tracer Tracer Alpha Energy Half -life Use Pu-236 5.768 MeV 2.858 y α Pu-242 4.900 MeV 3.73∙10 5 y α, MS Pu-244 4.589 MeV 8.08∙10 7 y MS • 236 Pu and 242 Pu are both used as tracers for alpha spectroscopy. • The decay of 236 Pu to 232 U has to be taken into account when analyzing both Pu and U in the same sample. 8
