Eighty- Eighth Regiment <strong>Ohio</strong> Volunteer <strong>Infantry</strong>.<br />

THRKE VKARS' SERVICE.<br />

This Regiment was originally composed of a Battalion of four companies,<br />

organized at Camp Chase, 0., from September 24 to October 27, 1862, to serve<br />

three years, and designated " 1st Battalion Governor's Guards."<br />

Six new companies were organized at Camp Chase, 0., from July 24 to<br />

August 3, 1863, to serve three years, and consolidated with this battalion and<br />

designated the <strong>88th</strong> <strong>Ohio</strong> Volunteers. It was mustered out of service July 3,<br />

1865, in accordance with orders from the <strong>War</strong> Department.<br />

This Regiment was principally engaged in guarding Rebel Prisoners at<br />

Camp Chase, 0. It was also engaged in the pursuit of the Morgan raiders and<br />

the suppression of the Holmes County rebellion, in July, 1863.<br />
