Juror’s Statement and Biography
Consequently, I selected works for this exhibit solely on the merits
of the work itself. The resulting roster of artists I chose for the 29th
Juried Open Exhibition captures the spirit of American Contemporary
art and the work is adventurous. Some pieces nod to art history,
others make history. I found the works to be beautiful, haunting,
clever, tough, moving, politically charged, technologically astute,
provocative, disturbing, witty, and masterful. Most of all, I liked what
I saw.
The Cubist painter, Georges Braque, stated “Art is meant to disturb.”
I am happily disturbed.
